Advantages: Excellent at fattening you up!
Disadvantages: It depends - do you prefer *not* being addicted to a snack food?
Ignore the ad that suggests all short people are incompetent and can't get things from top shelves without photocopying our bums - don't they know we've developed a highly complex skillset involving chairs and cooking tongs? - and concentrate on the Pocky. Mmm, Pocky. Sorry, sorry, Mikado.
While Mikado is the best thing to happen to the UK snack market in years, it's the worst thing to happen to Chinese/Japanese supermarkets, who have quietly but dedicatedly supplied Pocky to the addicted for decades. Pocky was the best kept secret for snackers for years, but now has mainstream distribution in the UK. Clearly - and correctly - assuming that the British can't deal with a product name that could be slightly comical if you said it in a very stange accent, the UK version of Pocky is called Mikado. Because it's Japanese, you see. "Sushi" was already taken by those pesky fish, and pandas are Chinese, so slightly strange Gilbert and Sullivan musical it is. And look, is that a rising sun I see on the box...? Wow. All of the stereotypes are covered! A good start!
When you look at them objectively, Poc--sorry--Mikado are nothing special. Essentially stick-like and brown, like that joke all kids love to tell. But get past the brown and the sticky, and what you have is heaven. Bite it. Mmmm. Yeah, so, it tastes of very little - things that small just can't taste of anything, it's the law, and why you need a lot of them - but it's addictive. Have another one! And as they're so small, and there's not exactly a lot of chocolate involved, they're practically calorie free, right? Err... well... Oh, but who cares about that when there are sticks to be eaten! Addictive sticks! Have another one! Maybe two! Maybe two boxes...?!
This is the type of snack that can't be described, because you can't do it justice with mere words. Well, untill there are words that mean "strangely not that tasty at first but by the time you've had two you're hooked for life and will get excited at random strangers should you ever happen to overhear someone saying, "what is this Pocky?"", and I don't think the OED are covering that one yet. So don't just take my word for it. Climb off the office furniture, stop photocopying your pants, and head on out to buy a box or eight.
Just don't say I didn't warn you, as you check into the Priory with your new-found addiction...
Summary: Nutricious and delicioous! Okay, so I lied about the nutricious part...
