Advantages: Low in calories, light

Disadvantages: Not tastiest chocolate, wouldn't fill you up

I was in Asda a couple of weeks ago doing my weekly shop and came across this product on offer. It was about 60p I think so thought why not give it a try.

Mikado is a chocolate biscuit type product. It comes in a white box which has a picture of the product on the front. It also has the nutritional information on the front. On the side of the box is the ingredients and also information for anyone with allergies. The back of the box had a description of the product and also some more detailed nutrition information.

The box that the product comes in opens at the front creating a lid type opening. This is good as it means that you don't need to eat all the biscuits in one go you can put them somewhere and leave them for later. Inside the box the biscuits are kept fresh inside a silver package. Again this helps to keep the product for later. I kept mine in the packet for a few days within my fridge (didn't want the chocolate to melt) and they were still fine to eat a couple of days after first opening.

The biscuits themselves come in the form of long thin stick type things. I would say they are about 4 or 5 inches in height. At the bottom there is a small part of biscuit that you can hold onto , the rest of the biscuit has been covered in milk chocolate. I think the biscuits being so thin mean that you would not be able to eat just one. I think it is likely you would eat a few of these at a time.

The good news is that the biscuits are only 11 calories each. This means you could eat quite a few of these for the same amount of calories as some other chocolate biscuit. I think this is one of the most appealing things about Mikado. I am watching my weight and so am always looking for ways to satisfy my sweet tooth while also not consuming too many calories. If I have one of these biscuits then it is hardly any calories. Even if I end up having a few it isn't an absolute disaster either.

Moving on to the taste of the biscuit. The biscuit itself is very crispy and tasty. I find it tastes quite light, probably because of how thin the biscuit is. This is quite good as you can have it as a snack and it doesn't feel to heavy and rich. The chocolate helps it taste nice and sweet. I would say it isn't the nicest chocolate and if Cadburys had done the same thing it might have been tastier. I suppose the taste probably also has to do with the fact that it is so low in calories so won't be overlly rich. Despite not being the best chocolate ever it is still quite tasty and goes well with the biscuit. I would also say there is just the right amount of biscuit and chocolate to make it a tasty snack.
