Advantages: Chocolate, caramel, lots of them
Disadvantages: I have no self control
There lay a little cup cake with delicate pink icing in an ornately decorated flowery casing paper. Attached the cake was an old-fashioned cream coloured luggage label. Written on the label in black ink were two words, ?Eat me?. I picked up the cake and peeled off the paper casing. I took a bite and the icing cracked as my teeth sank into the soft cake below. I swallowed and shortly began to feel rather odd. My body was tingling all over and I suddenly noticed that the cake I was holding was beginning to look much smaller. I was growing! By now my head was almost touching the ceiling. I reached into my pocket where I had earlier left my bag of Rolos. I glanced inside and laughed; the Rolos looked so small. They were tiny, they were teeny, they were really rather weeny! PACKAGING The little Rolos come in a dark brown bag emblazoned with gold and red writing. Pictures of the Rolos are scattered across the packaging and we are informed that inside are ?lots of little handfuls of mischief?. To emphasise this claim one of the Rolos is dressed as a devil, complete with trident and horns and is winking at us in what is probably supposed to be an alluring manner but just appears as though he has been poked in the eye (probably by the careless use of his own trident). Rolos have been in our confectionary repertoire for many years and I believe most people would agree with me that they have never been associated with sin and decadence. Indeed, in previous advertising campaigns we were encouraged to give our last Rolo to someone we loved and, surely, love and generosity are no sins. Ignoring the little Rolo demon and the little Rolo angel who is waving one hand in the air and has a terribly shocked expression on his face, so that you expect him to shout at any moment, ?Please Miss! I?ve had an accident?, I dipped into the packet to get a chocolate fix. THE MINI ROLOS Basically the mini Rolos a
re exactly that: Rolos but mini! They are identical to the original Rolo but very small; each one is about the size of my thumbnail. Each Rolo consists of a chocolate cup casing containing a hard caramel centre. The caramel is hard enough so that when you bite into it the contents does not ooze out but retains its form and causes your jaw to go into chew mode but soft enough so that once it has entered your mouth its texture quickly begins to soften and blend with the now melting chocolate. They are fairly satisfying pieces of chocolate and those who enjoy both chocolate and caramel are guaranteed to like them. The best thing about the mini Rolos in comparison with traditional Rolos is that there are lots of them! Unlike the normal tube of Rolos, once you have eaten seven or eight, you are not nearing the end of your chocolate experience; you peer into the bag and find that there are countless more little nuggets of chocolate encapsulated caramel still waiting to satisfy your cravings! MORE BUT SMALL Manufacturing a packet of lots and lots and lots and lots of little Rolos was a great idea by Nestle. Unlike a roll of Rolos this packet can be dipped into from time to time and does not have to be eaten in one sitting (okay, some of you may be freaks and may not eat your tubes in one go but I suspect you are few and far between). These mini Rolos will last you longer and even a chocolaholic like myself was not tempted to scoff them all in one go as they did become a little sickly after a while. Such a pity they are so small. But wait, I spy a little glass bottle with another luggage label tied around its neck. ?Drink me? it orders. Hmm, if I shrink and diminish in height considerably I will then have a packet of utterly enormous chocolates! I uncork the bottle?.. PS Apologies to Lewis Carroll
