Advantages: Different.

Disadvantages: Not that great.

Mongolian food is as eclectic as the people, however as Western companies move in, its popularity is certainly dwindling. At least once a day I was given a bowl of beef, which was essentially 10% beef and 90% fat. The thought made me sick. I had to, without fail, after every meal wait until the very end. Until EVERYONE had become bored with me eating and left the table so I was able to shove as much of the beef in my pocket and run to the toilet ramming it down the toilet. In reality it probably wasn't a nice thing to do, but in a slightly more sensible reality if I had tried to eat the food I would have regurgitated it all over the table. It wasn't the best, but that was merely one aspect of it. The Mongol favourite, and essentially their equivalent of a hamburger is what they call 'Buds' and these are dumplings with meat in the middle (sometimes vegetables), these, I must say - are pretty good!

Summary: Ultimately decent food, but hardly competing against the Italians, just yet.

Sorry for the low rate but this is more like an experience of one particular mongolian dish rather than an overview with opinion/ recipes/explanation etc x
