Advantages: Lovely pastry and cream
Disadvantages: chocolate was awful
I bought these Mini frozen Eclairs from Morrisons, when I was looking for a few different desserts. These were for some of my family and friends who had come to stay with me for a few days.
The mini eclairs, come in a dark purple coloured box, and there is a picture of the mini eclairs on the front of the box.
When I opened the box there was a plastic tray inside and this was very easy for me to remove. I got twenty four mini eclairs on the tray and each one was in it's own little compartment. I found it very simple to remove the eclairs from the tray.
The instructions told me to allow the eclairs to defrost for one hour. After this time the eclairs were completely defrosted and ready to eat.
Each eclair is about two inches in length and they all have a chocolate topping.
When I took a bite of the eclair, the pastry tasted nice and sweet. It was not chewy at all and it melted easily in my mouth. The eclair was filled with whipped dairy cream. I have to say that there was lots of cream inside, in fact, a lot more than I had expected.
It told me on the box that the eclairs were topped with chocolate sauce. I found that it looked more like chocolate icing, as it was set. To me, it had all the taste of chocolate flavoured icing and none of the taste of chocolate sauce. The topping did spoil the eclairs for me.
The other thing I did notice about the chocolate topping, was the little droplets of water that were on the top of the chocolate, after defrosting. I didn't think it looked very attractive.
I have to admit that I did serve these with fresh cream, and my visitors said they were very nice. One very honest friend told me later, that, they did not taste as good as the profiteroles I had served on their last visit.
All the ingredients, nutrition and storage details can be found on the back of the packaging. It is also highlighted on the packaging that once these eclairs have been defrosted, they cannot be put back into the freezer.
The box I bought had a freezer life until March 2009.
For the box of mini eclairs containing 24, it cost me £1.49 from Morrisons.
To sum up how I felt about my purchase - The eclairs were delicious by themselves but were spoiled by the chocolate flavoured 'sauce'.
Summary: I don't think I will buy these again.........
