Advantages: Fantastic taste.

Disadvantages: Don't last long.

I have a bit of a reputation as being rather partial to Donuts both at work and at home. I love them. When my sister visits she usually brings donuts with her and my colleagues will usually get me a donut when its birthday time and cakes are the order of the day. Woe betide anyone who nicks my donut they will be reprimanded quite harshly by my colleagues.

I am always on the look out for decent donuts and I have recently come across the best donuts I have ever tasted and none so far have reached this kind of perfection until now.

I have tried donuts from all the major supermarkets local bakeries and other outlets. You name them I have probably tried them

My impression of the following :-

Sainsburys--- Nasty greasy gritty granulated sugar and tight with the jam.
Tesco........Gritty granulated sugar and far too much sugar coating for my liking.
Local bakeries vary in quality some nice amount of jam but gritty.
Crispy crèmes are absolutely the most revolting donuts I have ever tasted and how they have the nerve to charge over a quid for a mouthful of bland tasteless dough is beyond me and quite a rip off. Even their flavoured donuts are not quite nice and I would have to offend by refusing if someone offered me one. I know some people swear by them..........they get me swearing for sure.

Now I have got that off my chest let's get on with the review.

I went to Morrison's supermarket rather by chance than on a shopping mission and whilst passing the bread department noticed shelves of freshly made in house donuts. Not ever having tried any from Morrison's before I thought as a matter of consumer interest I ought to try them. It just had to be done.

They are sold in packets of five donuts for 65p which worked out at 13p each and they are in a cardboard tray wrapped in baker's cellophane. If you buy two packets on offer they work out at £1.09 just under 11p each. However not having tried any before from Morrison's I just bought one packet.

I got them home unpacked the shopping and popped the kettle on as you do!

Opened up the packet and was pleased to see that the donuts were lightly coated in icing sugar. Not overly iced just a fine dusting and the donuts looked nicely golden brown underneath the icing sugar.

They seemed quite spongy and not hard at all. Biting into the donut I was pleasantly surprised to find the donut was nice, light and airy and not heavy or doughy. It tasted really nice and not a hint of grease. The next bite and I was well into the jam which tasted tart but mixed with the icing sugar was really nice and sweet. There was an ample amount of jam in the donut which is what I enjoy most. The taste was absolutely great. Just to make sure I was not wrong in my tasting I had to have another later that afternoon purely for research purposes you understand. YUM.

Nutritional information. There is no nutritional information available on the packet. Treat them as a treat rather than a staple and you won't go far wrong.

They also make them in other flavours too including Strawberry, Custard, apple and believe it or not mint chocolate. Raspberry and Strawberry are true jam donuts......It is sacrilege to even consider the custard apple and especially the choc mint variety.

Time for a little confession here. I did make a special trip out to Morrison's to buy some one day but they had sold out and I wouldn't touch the custard apple or mint choc ones with a barge pole. I only like jammy Donuts.

OK OK they are not good for dieters and are probably laden with a zillion calories but hey they are ok for a treat and boy are you in for a real treat. In my humble opinion they are the best donuts I have tasted in a long while and recommend them without hesitation. They also freeze well so when I make the odd trip to Morrison's I will buy a packet for immediate consumption and freeze the other packet.

Enjoy!

Summary: Nice and jammy!
