Advantages: taste amazing
Disadvantages: go stale quickly
I have recently reviewed the fresh Morrisons pizza's that they make on sight and it got me to thinking about how amazing the fresh donuts they have instore, are too. A bit of a theme developing here with the old Morrisons!
I would say that the fresh donuts at Morrisons are probably the best I've ever tasted. They really are out of this world and if you eat them straight away then they are even better.
They come in a few flavours and these are the well-known raspberry, apple and custard. The costing is different depending on which pack that you buy but you can get a small 2 pack and a 5 pack but quite often they are on offer so you have an excuse to pick up more than you would normally scoff.
They do go stale quite quickly which is why I mentioned earlier that you should eat them on the day of purchase for the best taste, having said that I have eaten the day after and even the day after that and they have been fine.
I have tried all of the flavours and without a doubt, the custard ones are my absolute favourite. I can eat a whole packet in one sitting and I usually try to encourage my hubby to have his own packet when we buy them because I know I will go on a big binge bender and he won't get a look in.
So what makes these donuts so special?
Well for a start I am not a big fan of granulated sugar. I actually don't have it in my diet (apart from when it's mixed into something) because I can't stand the texture of it. It reminds me of having my immunisations and the doctor giving me a sugar cube as a reward! He could have chosen from a huge array of sugary delights but he decided on a sugar cube and it's scarred me for life! Anyway, these donuts don't have the sugary coating that clings to your fingers, lips and teeth. Instead it has a nice soft coating of icing sugar. There isn't so much on the donut that you can't see what you are eating but just enough that gives it a nice melt in the mouth texture.
Secondly you can tell that the donuts are dead fresh. If you get there at the right time then they can feel that they are a little warm to the touch and I always end up wanting to open the pack there and then. When you sink your teeth into the warm dough, it's so light that it doesn't even feel like you biting into anything and just like the icing sugar, it melts as you chew.
Thirdly there is a lot of filling in each one. I've had donuts in the past that have had such little jam in them that I've almost finished the donut before I find a tiny squeeze of red stuff on the very edge. These donuts have the filling quite central and it fills quite a wide area.
And finally, the flavours are awesome. The standard raspberry is very sweet and flavoursome, the apple reminds me of my mum's home cooked apple pie ad the custard ones are just divine!
Over all I'd recommend that you jump in your car right now and go and try a packet of these. If you aren't sure then pick up a 2 pack for 29p so you can try them but I guarantee that you will eat them and come back for more. At the same time you could pick up one of those stunning pizza's that I was talking about earlier and you will have yourself a nice healthy tea! (Not!).
Summary: The best donut in the world
