I always use tinned carrots when I do cheese and potato pie because I think the softness and sweet flavour of them is better than fresh carrots. Most of the cheapo supermarket tinned carrots are fine and there's no need to pay more than about 24p a tin for them. I didn't think anything of it when I brought a tin of Morrisons Value carrots but when I started cooking with them they were naff and nearly spoiled the cheese and potato pie. The slices weren't cut very well, there were some very thick ones and some that were so thin they would break up as I was tipping them into the pan. I always keep a few different tins of canned vegetables in the cupboard for a 'lazy' meal or for when I need to prepare soemthing out of nothing. Last week, however, I bit the bullet and bought five of their Value items to sample and played it safe by picking items like these Sliced Carrots in Water as what can go wrong with a basic product such as this? Well, just about everything really. The carrots are hard and the texture inconsistent through the tin, the hardness is universal but I ... Read the complete review
