Advantages: Inexpensive, Easy to cook
Disadvantages: An aquired taste
Firstly, don’t let the word Faggots put you off! The 'unfortunate' name is derived from the original welsh word ffagodau which means a mixture or combination. Faggots were always popular back in Welsh history, the miners might keep a pig and the faggots were an easily carried lunch when they needed nourishment for their strenuous work underground
Secondly don’t let the ingredients put you off, they will however have any vegetarians running for the hills.
To coin a popular phrase you will either love them or hate them! because of the offal base.
The main ingredients in this quite strongly tasting dish are Pigs liver, heart, belly pork, herbs and spices.
Brains faggots (Brains not included in the recipe!) come in a handy foil container which can be easily heated in the oven, taking around 30 minutes if cooked from frozen.
The Faggot its self is really just a large soft meatball in gravy, and goes well served with mashed potatoes, or chips.
Good thinking on behalf of “Mr Brains” to make them in handy packs of two, as a pack of four just never gets eaten in my house, infact if I am honest half of the pack of two usually ends up in the dog!
Would be an inexpensive meal (about 75p or often buy one get one free) but throwing half of it away rather defeats the object don’t you think!
