Advantages: Tasty sweet, and taste just like Bakewell Tarts

Disadvantages: No cherry on top

Mr Lools and I are both big fans of Bakewell Tarts by Mr Kipling but try not to eat too many as they are slightly bad for you. So imagine my delight when I noticed Mr Kipling Bakewell Slice cake slices, one of our favourite snacks just less of a guilty pleasure.

***Packaging***

The Mr Kipling Bakewell Slices come in a long rectangular cardboard outer box. The box is a golden colour with Bakewell Slices written on the front of the box. The Mr Kipling branding stands out as this is bright red and there is also an image of a Bakewell Slice on the front of the packaging.

Inside there are 6 cake slices. There are three plastic trays which are individually wrapped with cellophane and inside each tray are two cake slices. The design of the packaging is great if you want to take these with you on the move rather than taking the larger packet with you.

***Price***

A six pack of Mr Kipling Bakewell Slices cost £1.32. The Bakewell slices are part of the 2 for £2 offer at Asda on Mr Kipling products. I have also seen a six pack of Mr Kipling Bakewell Slices in B & M bargains before for 79p so big saving on the price these are sold in supermarkets even on special offer.

***Bakewell Slices***

Bakewell Slices have an almond flavoured sponge base with a layer of plum jam in the centre. On top of the sponge cake slice is a layer of white fondant icing. The icing has a piped chocolate effect on top.

The Bakewell Slices also have a delicious scent. The initial scent is very sweet and the almond sponge is the most dominant scent. This reminds me very much of the scent of marzipan.

When you bite into the Bakewell slice you will immediately notice how moist the sponge is. These are by far the moistest cakes from the Mr Kipling range but these are not soggy. The initial taste is the almond base; not only does this smell but it also tastes slightly like marzipan. The cake slices taste very sweet because of the plum jam and the fondant icing but the chocolate on top of the icing is quite rich and creamy which stops the Bakewell Slice being overly sugary sweet and sickly.

These. If you were to have two of these (which is highly likely as they are very tasty but small in size) this is a high number of calories and fat. In fact it is more fat and calories than an ordinary Bakewell Tart.

***Overall***

Another great cake from Mr Kipling. The tasty almond flavoured sponge base with the sweet icing on top and layer of jam work brilliantly together and the tastes compliment each other rather than overpower . The chocolate in the icing adds a different touch to the Bakewell Slices and is great for those that don't like the cherry on top of Bakewell tarts. Like with most things you have to trade taste over calories, in this instance taste wins... I would rather have a Bakewell Tart, but Bakewell slices do come a close second.

Summary: Bakewell tarts in a cake slice
