Advantages: Loveyl taste and sponge is soft

Disadvantages: Only limted edition at the moment

I don't buy a lot of expensive treats in the monthly shop but, generally when I do buy something I is because it is on offer and so it is a nice way to have a treat without spending a lot of money. My latest treat was these because after nipping to Asda to pick up some bits I spotted that they were only £1 per pack and as I love most forms of coffee cake I thought this would be the perfect treat for me to have!

What are they?
As the box states they are Mr Kipling branded cake slices. Just like a lot of the other cakes produced by this company there are 6 slices in the box of which each is just under about 3 inches in length. They are a sponge type slice which is flavoured with coffee and then covered with a fine layer of icing on top.

Packaging:
One thing that always sands out about Mr Kipling slices is the way they are packaged. Rather than have all the 6 slices in one try inside the box, the slices are put in 3 trays with two slices in each and then that tray is individually wrapped. Yes it is a lot of packaging but, it does really help to keep the cakes fresh. Especially when more often than not you will only eat a couple at a time!

Taste:
I wasn't sure how good these would be as I have never had any coffee cake made by Mr Kipling before - however I was quite surprised as thy were my ideal cake! The flavour of the coffee in the sponge is not overly strong to the point where it is hard to enjoy but, at the same time the flavour is strong enough for you to know it is meant to be coffee. The icing on the top is also flavoured and as this is only a fine layer it complements the sponge perfectly. The cake slice overall has a lovely coffee flavour that for me personally, was very moreish! I definitely could eat more than two in one go although I had to stop myself from doing this!

Price:
This is what attracted me to the slices in the first place as they seemed such good value - I know that this is only an introductory offer and I think for how nice these are it is certainly good value. At normal price I would expect them to be priced at around the £1.30 mark although even then you may still be able to buy as part of a multi buy offer and therefore still only pay £1 per pack.

Overall opinion:
I was very impressed with these and would definitely buy these again whether they were on offer or not as they were simply delicious. The sponge was also very soft too which in turn make the cake slice a lot more enjoyable to eat. Mr Kipling can certainly put his slogan of 'exceedingly good cakes' to these and I would highly recommend these to anyone who loves a coffee cake.

Summary: A good bit of coffee cake
