... greeted by the bakewells (in foil pastry cases) sitting in a plastic tray, wrapped in film. In contrast to the 'slices' range (which are wrapped in twin-packs), at least this way it's easier to only eat ONE cake at a time, but be sure to re-close the box to prevent the cakes going stale. The bakewells themselves consist of a pastry case with a layer of raspberry flavoured plum jam (eh?! Why not just use raspberry jam...?!) at the bottom, covered with an almond flavoured sponge, topped with a soft fondant icing, al...more

Premium Review Mr Kipling Cherry Bakewells: Mr Kipling's exceedingly good Cherry Bakewells (503 words)

It is true - Mr Kipling really does make exceedingly good cakes and my favourite in his range have to be his cherry bakewells (and aparently, according to his website they are Mr Kipling's favourites too!) A bakewell is a traditional English bakes dessert tart or cake. It is similar to the bakewell pudding which is said to have originated from the Derbyshire town of Bakewell. In any case the bakewell tart has been around for centuries and there are various recipes and secret recipes surrounding it. Mr Kipling describes his as "cake light pastry cases filled with fruity jam beneath a delicious layer of almond sponge. All topped with sweet icing ...  Read the complete review

These along with French Fancies always bring back memories of tea at my Grans house on a Sunday evening before the dreaded return to school as often there was a plate of these for us to share. Mr Kipling has been producing cakes for a very long time and these are one of those cakes which have not really changed. Each box has six individual cakes in it and each one is in a little foil cake holder. On the outside is a crumbly pastry and the top is made up of icing sugar. Inside there is a layer of almond sponge with plum and rasberry jam as a filling. The whole cake then has half a glazed cherry on the top. This is a rather sweet cake due ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Mr Kipling Cherry Bakewells: Sweet Cherry Cakes! (333 words)

These are my very favourite Mr Kipling cakes but for some reason I don't have them very often, I don't know why that is but they are yummy and I had 2 today and loved them. A Cherry Bakewell is a pastry case that is filled with sponge and jam, there is white icing on the top and half a cherry on each one. These cakes are majorly sweet, they've got a bit of a marzipan taste and that goes sooooo nice with the jam and the soft pastry. I love how buttery the pastry is and quickly it melts in my mouth, it doesn't go sticky or fall apart in my hand and that's good because I had a cheap box of bakewells from Sainsburys and they crumbled to ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Simply the best! (372 words)

Cherry Bakewells are made by many different brands, but none of them come close to the mighty Mr Kipling, with the freshness, taste and smell that takes you on a small trip to heaven. However, they are more expensive than other brands and they also contains lots of calories and fat. The packaging is very bright and easy to read with big text. The images will make your mouth water. It is easy to open, and the product is always fresh with the plastic wrapper, but being all wrapped together, you will need another container if you don't eat them all in one go. The price of the product is very good, but it is more expensive than other brands. ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Mr Kipling Cherry Bakewells: MY LEAST FAV (270 words)

Continuing on my Quest to work my way through the Mr Kipling range while they are still on offer at Asda. It is now the turn of the Chreey Bakewell. Asda's deal has slightly changed now. They were selling the range at £1 each, but not it is 2 for £2.20, and since the items are priced at £1.36 each, then still a saving, ut not quite as good as before. These are certainly not my favourite Cake, but I know a few people who love these. The packaging for these s quite eye catching. A slightly square-ish but rectangular box. It is mostly red with white writing on it and there isn't just the normla picture of 1 Cake on the box, there is a good few. 1 of ...  Read the complete review
