Advantages: The cake is soft and moist
Disadvantages: No choc chips and tastes awful
A little while ago I decided to choose low fat options to eat of weekend rather than go all out and eat whatever I wanted which is what I usually do. After scanning the cake aisle, I came across these new slices which were part of the new range from Mr Kipling. I decided to give them a go despite the fact that they were a lot more than I'd normally be willing to pay for something like this.
This is a low fat option so each slice only contains 69 calories, 4g of sugar and 1.4g of fat which is fairly good for something that is chocolate based if it tastes good........
Well, viewers I can tell you that these really didn't taste that good at all! The sponge was very soft and moist which is great but the chocolate flavour didn't exactly 'punch' me in the face! The thing about these cakes is that they look so dark and 'chocolatey' that you are tricked into thinking that they are going to taste like a full fat chocolate muffin but they really are far from it. To top it all off, I found about three chocolate chips in the cake slice and when I ripped open another, I found that this wasn't an accident as that one only had three in it too.
The main thing that really put me off eating all of these was the fact that it not only tasted synthetic and artificial but I could also taste the plastic from the containers they were packaged in. I have rather sensitive tastebuds but that was really off putting and it wasn't a subtle plastic taste, it was rather strong to the point where I could continue eating.
These were a huge disappointment for me and I definitely won't be buying them again or recommending them to you or anyone else for that matter! The last four slices a long with the one I ripped open all went into the bin along with the £1 that I spent on them!
Summary: Don't bother with these!
