Advantages: Wonderful taste

Disadvantages: Expensive and unhealthy

French Fancies are not only one of my favourite sweets from Mr Kipling, but one of my favourites, full stop! They're absolutely DELICIOUS, and I don't know anyone that doesn't like these. A packet of Fancies has 8 cake-like treats inside, which are eight square-shaped delights, wrapped individually in paper, just to give them that very debonaire look. The fancies themselves are icing-covered sponges that have a rich and creamy filling, with the icing being of three flavours - strawberry, lemon and chocolate, with the corresponding colours to match (although chocolate gets the short straw with only two of the fancies being brown, sadly - why aren't there three each!?). They're all very sweet and nice tasting, and I particularly enjoy swirling them around in my mouth like a cement mixer, so the sponge, cream and icing all mix into one moist, delicious ball.

Considering how absurdly unhealthy they look, I was somewhat surprised to see that they in fact only contain about 100 calories in each fancy, but still, it's easy to plough through the whole box inside of an hour, which would be in excess of 800 calories, and not at all good for you. My advice is to make sure that when you eat them, you're with friends or family who can help you take a hit on some of the calories. Although this is easier said then done when you consider just how expensive they are! With the recession, they're creeping ever closer to £2 at the moment, which for 8 cakes that can be devoured in one mouthful, is quite a lot of money.

I won't always buy these when I'm at the supermarket, primarily because of their price, but they are a gorgeous treat that I will pick up occasionally. I reiterate that I don't know a single person who doesn't love these wonderful treats!

Summary: Not good for your wallet or your tummy, but so good!
