Advantages: tastes really nice
Disadvantages: small and expensive
French fancies are those little iced sponge buns with the cream dome top which are favourites for a lot of people and are made by Mr Kipling himself.
There made up of a square of sponge, this sponge is just a plain sponge colour and its also really light and tastes really fluffy when you eat it. The sponge square isn't that big though, probably about 1 1/5 - 2 inches squared so I would like to see them a bit bigger as I'm never happy with only eating one at a time.
Coating the sponge square then is the icing, in a pack you get three different colours and they taste a bit different too. The pink one, the yellow one and the chocolate one, to be honest I don't really have a favourite as the yellow and pink ones taste pretty much the same, and the chocolate one tastes a bit like chocolate but there all nice.
The top of the bun bumps up in the shape of a kind of semi circle. This contains the cream, this is really milky and tastes nice but a bit sickly if you pick it off and eat it on its own so I usually eat it with a bit of the cake as well.
You get eight of these in a pack, and there usually about £1.70 a pack which is really expensive for eight especially when there only small, so I do only get these when they are on offer but if you look around I'm sure you would be able to find some for cheaper than that, and if you can they are most certainly worth it.
Summary: great cake but could be bigger
