Advantages: Pink & yellow cakes the best!
Disadvantages: The brown ones...
I love cakes, & I love convenience, so it goes without saying that I'm rather partial to Mr Kiplings offerings.... one of my faves being the 'French Fancies'.
Freanch Fancies come in a brightly coloured box, within which is a tray of 8 little cakes. These cakes comprise a plain cake sponge base, topped with a blob of vanilla creme, all encompassed in a fondant icing & drizzled with a chocolate flavour icing. There are 3 'colours' of cake in the box - pink (which doesn't taste of anything in particular), yellow (which I think is supposed to be lemon flavoured), & brown (which is chocolate flavoured).
The chocolate flavour ones are my least favourite - they have a 'cheap' chocolate taste to them, & the other flavours are far superior. The sponge is always light & fluffy, although if you happen to leave them in an open box for a few days, they soon start to go stale, & the icing turns rock hard.
French fancies aren't as good as any you could make yourself, or as good as similar iced buns/cakes available from bakeries, but they are very convenient (being sold at most supermarkets), & do keep for a long time in an air-tight container.
Fat-wise they're not too bad either - with each fancy being a mere 2.7g fat (although they are only small!). In addition, calories are 105 per cake, protein 0.7g, carbs 19.5g. Price-wise, these will set you back around £1.50 for a box of 8, although they are frequently on offer at Tesco for 2 packs for £2.50.
A nice little treat for when you fancy something sweet...
Summary: They tickle my fancy....!
