Advantages: Packs a good crunch & nice flavour

Disadvantages: Very salty & unhealthy, can be hard to get hold of and a tad pricey

They may be unhealthy, but they're damn good! Call me piggy, but I do like some Mr Porky Scratchings to satisfy my crunch cravings! :o)

Mr Porky is a range of pork scratchings produced by Redmil, one of the UKs leading savory snack food manufacturers with over 30 years experience. I trust that they're good quality and have never had a less than tasty packet.

Scratchings are generally bar snacks so you'll probably come across these quite easily in pubs, but they're harder to come by in supermarkets. I buy these from Morrisons but haven't seen these exact ones elsewhere, though Mr Porky Pork Crackles seem more readily available (very similar but smaller pieces). They come in a 40g black bag and cost around £1. They can also be bought in a multi pack of 6 small snack sized bags but I have to apologise because I don't know the exact details for these and can't find them on any online supermarket. When we get a bag of these they're shared and can last a little while if you're just eating one or two at a time as a snack. I wouldn't recommend you sit down and eat a whole bag in one go; you'll probably get indigestion and they're not the healthiest of foods.

Per 100g Mr Porky Scratchings contain 607 calories and 45.7g of fat...but it doesn't make you a piggy if you eat these, still enjoy them just eat in moderation.

I think they have a great bacon/pork type taste and are very crunchy. The scratchings very in size - in the bag you get a mix between huge curled up ones and smaller bits. Some of these will have a lot more crunch to them. You usually get softer parts to these too (usually on the underside of the hard outer part) which are more flavoursome. They are very salty, especially when you reach the bottom of the bag where the salt has dropped down. I quite like some salt, but not copious amounts so you may have to dust some off if you're not a big fan.

Overall, I would recommend these. They've pack a great crunch and have a nice flavour, though are a tad pricey, difficult to get your mits on and far from healthy.

Summary: Great as an occasional snack to satify crunch cravings :o)
