Advantages: rich flavour, creamy, on offer at times
Disadvantages: not too healthy!
At first I wasn't ever planning on trying the Müller Amoré range, but after thoroughly enjoying the Vanilla and Dark Chocolate Flakes option, I decided I would try the Cherry flavour too. It's deep blue circular pot looked very sophisticated, the images of the juicy cherries shining out, looking glossy on the shelf in my fridge. I was incredibly tempted, I couldn't help myself.
When I peeled back the lid at first, the aroma drifted up in an instant. A sweet cherry scent filled the air around me, a pleasantly sugary sweet smell. Although that was quite a delight, I hoped it didn't taste too sugary. When I looked down at the pot, I was thrilled by the pale pink girly shade of the yoghurt. It was much lighter than I had imagined; usually cherry yoghurts are a much darker shade of pink, if not red.
The yoghurt certainly looked scrumptious, but how would it taste? Scooping down the spoon and swooping it back up into my mouth with a fair amount of yoghurt on it, I was amazed by its incredibly cool, smooth and creamy texture. It tasted very sweet, but thankfully not the sugary flavour I had feared. There was a definite rich cherry flavour, prominent in the yoghurt. However, I could also detect a slight strawberry presence too, which I had not expected.
In my first spoon of yoghurt there was not any pieces of fruit, however throughout the whole yoghurt, I managed to find about six little juicy cherry pieces. They were quite soft and fortunately not too gritty, providing an interesting texture combination for the yoghurt.
This particular Amoré yoghurt was indeed incredibly delicious. I thought in no way could it be healthy. Indeed, I was right. The nutritional information is clearly printed on the side of the pot, and at closer inspection I wasn't surprised with my findings. Each 150g serving contains 215 calories, 23.7g sugars and a whopping 11g fat. Searching for a silver lining though, it is a good source of calcium, each pot providing 17% (137mg) of our Recommended Daily Allowance. It's also suitable for vegetarians.
*WARNING*; each pot contains milk and may contain cherry stones too.
For such a rich-tasting, indulgent yoghurt, you shouldn't expect to pay for this with coppers (well, you could, but I wouldn't recommend it!). Each yoghurt will set you back around 68p, though I feel it's definitely worth every penny. Thankfully, Müller yoghurts are quite often on offer. These deals differ from time, though momentarily you can buy Amoré yoghurts at 5 for £3, saving yourself 40p!
Müller yoghurts always seem to have a reasonable shelf-life, and this one is no different. I found that my particular yoghurt wasn't set to expire until seventeen days after purchase, which is fantastic! You'll find the shelf-life averages at around a fortnight for Müller yoghurts. Though, I couldn't possibly make them last that long!
I've given this luxurious treat great praise, but how does it compare to other yoghurts? Well, first I'll analyse it against other cherry yoghurts. Müller offer two other options here; Müller Light Cherry and Fruit Corner Cherry. This is definitely more tasty than the Light option, a much richer flavour. It's perhaps not as fun as the sticky Fruit Corner option, but again the taste is more enjoyable. There's no worrying that other Cherry yoghurts I've enjoyed are going to top this - the Amoré yoghurt is much more scrumptious and appetising than the Weight Watchers Black Cherry and the Good For You Probiotic Cherry from Asda too.
Cherry yoghurts are one of my favourite flavours, and this certainly tops the lot!
It may be more tasty, but this particular fruity yoghurt perhaps isn't as practical as the others. First of all, I enjoy yoghurt with weetabix or fruit, but there's far too much in this pot to eat it that way. Though, it is a good size so can easily be popped into a basket or box to take on a picnic. The lid is quite thick and the pot a tough cardboard, so there's minimum chances that it will burst and spill. Although its not really one to appeal to kids, it does make a great little treat to serve as a pudding or snack. Unfortunately, because the pot is made of cardboard rather than plastic, its not really reusable as it will just go soggy when washed. The only use I could find was making a hat for my dog.
This is definitely worth a try, especially if you like cherries! I suppose you could make your own by mixing a blend of natural yoghurt and cherry fruits, but it simply wouldn't be the same, even if it is healthier and cheaper in the long run! There are several other Amoré yoghurt to suit your tastes too, including Orange, Peach, Strawberry and the already-mentioned Vanilla and Dark Chocolate Flake. There's also a Walnut and Greek Honey option I quite fancy trying now too.
Müller have created yet another splendid yoghurt, this one for the more sophisticated of pallets!
