Advantages: Scrumptious, fruity, sweet, filling
Disadvantages: not too healthy
Years ago, one of my favourite yoghurts was the Mississippi Mud Pie Müller Crunch Corner. Unfortunately, they stopped producing the delicious dessert. For quite a while, surprisingly I went off yoghurts and only started eating them again several months ago. Since then though, I have become quite addicted and love sampling new flavours.
Although I usually stick to low-fat yoghurts, I decided to try something a little different, and headed for the Müller Corner range. Okay, so there was no treasured Mississippi Mud Pie dessert on the shelf, but the flavours available did sound appetising.
Not only did I opt for the Rhubarb Crumble option because it sounded delicious, but it was quite attractive too; the lid a combination of swirling green colours, and an image of a slightly pink yoghurt and crumble piled generously onto a spoon. I love the Müller Light Rhubarb flavour yoghurt, and hoped this fruity sweet flavour would be just as scrumptious!
Opening the yoghurt, I was not greeted by a little shower of yoghurt, which is always good - I have drenched many a t-shirt before! Removing the lid completely, I turned it over and gave it a lick. The pale yoghurt on the back tasted strongly of vanilla custard, but so far no hint of rhubarb.
Now, there are a few fun ways you can eat Müller Corner yoghurts. Because the pot is split into two - a small triangle and a larger one - you have the option of eating the contents separately, or enjoying them both together. Personally, I always sample each section on its own before mixing them together. Spooning up some of the small crumble pieces from the smaller of the triangles, I noticed how dry and crunchy it was, a delightful sugary sweet taste. Giving the yoghurt part a taste, I discovered its thick and creamy texture had fairly large pieces of juicy rhubarb mixed through, along with a fine rhubarb sauce. The yoghurt actually tasted a little of white chocolate, as well as having a refreshing fruity strong rhubarb flavour. However, it was not as 'pink' as it appeared to be on the lid. Trying both the crumble and the yoghurt together, it most definitely did taste like rhubarb crumble! Though, as delicious as it was, I continued to enjoy both sections separately.
There is no denying that the yoghurt was a delight to eat, though its not quite as healthy as other yoghurts! Each 150g pot contains 239 calories, and a whopping 25.8g of sugars. It also has 8.4g of fat. That is not an enormous amount in general, but is a great deal more than those virtually-fat-free choices! For those with allergies, this yoghurt also contains wheat (gluten) and soya, as well as milk. It may contain nut traces too, so the packaging states, so I'd stay clear if you are unable to eat such products.
If you are able to enjoy this dessert, then I will strongly suggest giving it a try. It's perfect for an after-meal pudding, which is the way I enjoyed it, leaving me feeling satisfyingly full. It also makes a canny little snack when you're getting a little peckish. It's not exactly ideal for childrens' lunches at school, as it takes up a bit of room and is likely to run the risk of bursting if squished against heavier products, though it would make a decent after-school snack to give kids that energy boost they need to keep them going until tea time!
This is not my favourite yoghurt around, but not all can be top of the list! However, I will not deny the fact that it is incredibly delicious with a fantastic texture and most certainly worth a try!
