Advantages: Strawberry taste, good price, low fat, low calorie

Disadvantages: Not keen on set yoghurt

As you may well know Dave and I have been buying and eating lots of Muller Light yoghurts whilst we have been trying to loose weight. Each morning I make a pint of sugar free jelly, split it between four glass dishes, add some fruit and let it set. We then eat the jellies with yoghurt poured over the top like a sugar free trifle.

To ring the changes we have been trying all the different flavours and I thought that we had tried them all but when I was shopping at the weekend I spotted one called Muller Light Layers Strawberry flavour which sounded like something different so I got one each for us.

The cost was 54p for a pot containing 175g of yoghurt which is the same price as the ordinary Muller Light ones and at the moment they are on offer at 4 for £2 which doesn't actually save much cash but I suppose every little helps at the moment!

The pot is the same shape as the other Muller Light yoghurt pots and is wider at the top than a 'standard' sized yoghurt pots thus making it easier to get at the contents - until you get to the bottom that is! There is bit of a ridge round the bottom of the pot and getting that last bit of yoghurt out is very difficult!

These pots are transparent rather than the normal white Muller Light pots and I am guessing that is so that you can see the two distinct layers inside.

The foil lid shows a picture of strawberries with a wiggly line which I think is meant to denote the fact that the strawberries come in the form of compote as opposed to full fruits. The now recognisable Muller logo is there in red and white with the word 'light' is in blue. Oddly enough the actual name of the flavour is in very small lettering.

You just peel off the foil lid and because this yoghurt is more solid than the others there isn't much to lick on the lid!

The yoghurt itself is white and through the pot the layer of strawberry compote is clearly visible. There was a sweet aroma although I wouldn't say that it smelled like strawberries specifically.

So let's get onto the important bit - the taste!

Well the top part is set yoghurt - the consistency of a set jelly - and it has a slight taste of vanilla to me although vanilla is not mentioned on the pot or the list of ingredients. Maybe it is just the power of suggestion because the yoghurt is the colour of vanilla.

Underneath the set yoghurt is a generous layer of fruit compote which was delicious. It was very thick and sweet and complimented the yoghurt perfectly. Apparently 9% of the whole pot of yoghurt is made up of strawberries.

The nutrition value of the pot of yoghurt is;
Calories 95
Protein 5.4g
Carbohydrates 16.8g
Of which sugars 14.2g
Sugars naturally from fruit 6.7g
Fat 0.2g
Fibre 0.5g
Sodium trace
Calcium 177mg which is 22% of an adult's recommended daily allowance

The dessert contains no artificial colours or preservatives.

The foil lid and plastic pot can both be recycled so that's another point in its favour as far as I am concerned.

Overall I enjoyed this yoghurt although I think I would prefer the normal Muller Light yoghurts as I prefer the creamy yoghurts rather than the set ones.

I was torn between three and four stars as the taste is lovely it is just the texture I'm not keen on.

Summary: A layer of strawberry compote with yoghurt on top!
