Advantages: Low in fat

Disadvantages: Taste, Contains Aspartame and gelatine

Whilst shopping in Morrisons at the weekend I noticed that they still had the Muller Light range on offer. I realised that there were four flavours I'd never tried before and, despite the fact that I wasn't that enthused by three of time, they went into the trolley. After all, you should never make a judgement on something before you've tried it, should you?

Packaging:

The yogurt comes in a plastic white & brown pot. The pot is covered with the usual foil lid with a picture of some chunks of toffee on it. The pot tells us that it weighs 200g that there are 100 calories per pot, that it's fat free and that each pot will provide you with 31% of your Recommended Daily Amount of calcium.

The ingredients for this flavour are: Yogurt, Water, Fructose, Modified Maize Starch, Flavourings, Gelatine, Caramel Syrup, Salt, Sweeteners: Aspartame, Acesulfame K; Citric Acid

The Yogurt:

On opening the pot I can see that the yogurt is sort of off white which is sort of yellowey-brown in colour. Not the most appetising sight I've ever seen when opening a yogurt.There's a distinct aroma of something sweet which I presume is meant to be toffee.

Taste:

This yogurt has a reasonably thick consistency and reminds me somewhat of the Banana and custard flavour. There are no bits in it whatsoever. I can't actually taste anything in it that reminds me of toffee. It just tastes like something rather bland that they've added to sweeteners to. That's not to say that it's oversweet and sickly, because it isn't, but, aside from the sweetness there's no other real taste here.

Price:

At time of writing Morrisons have Muller Lights on offer for 25p

Opinion:

I'm really not that keen on this at all. In fact it's probably my least favourite flavour of all the ones I've tried so far. Once you've discounted the sweet taste there's not flavour at all to it and it may as well just be some poorly coloured gloop that happens to be sweet. It's in no way preferable at all to any types of real toffee.

On a positive note, this yogurt will provide you with 31% of your RDA of calcium and, as with the rest of the range, is virtually fat free.
On the negative side this yogurt contains both aspartame and gelatine, both of which some people have issues / concerns over and it's not suitable for anyone with any sort of milk intolerance or allergy. It also contains a second sweetener ~ Aceselfume K which is a possible carcinogen.

Muller Lights in order of preference:-

01=) Cherry
01=) Wild Blueberry
03) Strawberry
04) Apricot
05) Mandarin
06) Raspberry and Cranberry
07) Smooth Banana and Custard
08) Smooth Toffee

Lol! I thought that there couldn't be anything worse than the banana and custard one when I tried that, but how wrong I was!
