Advantages: Tasty, filling, creamy, can be eaten hot or cold.
Disadvantages: High sugar content
My husband has been eating these Muller Rice pots like they are going out of fashion for weeks now! I kept on finding the empty pots here and there. Today he told me he had eaten 2 for breakfast, despite scoffing down a big bowl of porridge before he left....curious to know what all the fuss is about I picked one up for myself at lunch today.
I have to say, the thought of cold rice pudding did nothing for me. I hadn't eaten rice pudding since I was a child, and then it was always hot. I see on the tub that you can heat this, so there is that option if like me you don't fancy it cold. I chose the original rice, although there were flavoured versions to choose from. The packaging is a simple plastic tub with a peel back foil lid.
I was pleasantly surprised by the rice! I had no way of heating it, so ate it cold. it is verty thick and creamy and doesn't have a lumpy texture like I was expecting. I had imagined something somewhere between wallpaper paste and...apologies for this.......cold vomit (horrible but true!) All my worries were for nothing and I thoroughly enjoyed it. It wasn't too sweet either, just creamy and quite filling.
A 200g pot cost me 59p. I have it on good authority that recently they were on offer for 8 for £2 at the Co-Op. Maybe this is where husband's problem started! A 200g pot will provide you with 210 calories and 5.2g of fat (3g saturates) This doesn't look too bad, then you are hit with a whopping 21.2 g of sugar! Once again, I feel it's all a bit misleading. This product is labeled as Low Fat, which granted it is, but this really gives the impression that it's quite light in calories.....and it isn't. If you are following the weight watchers plan it is worth 4 points. Quite a chunk out of your daily allowance if like me you are only allowed 18 points per day.
A tasty product, but maybe not the best option of you are watching your weight.
Summary: Eat in moderation!
