As a child I hated rice pudding so really had no desire try Muller rice as an adult. That was until I started to read reviews telling me how yummy they were. The final persuasive push came when I saw pots of Muller rice on offer in Asda at 4 for just £1. The RRP of Muller rice is 54p so this was a good saving! I decided to give them a try and bought 4 different flavours to try. One of the flavours I choose was vanilla custard as I love all thing vanilla!

Before I tell you my thoughts on the rice let me tell you a bit of information about the company behind these snacks. Muller can trace its roots back to 1896 when Ludwig Muller started to run a dairy in a small Bavarian town. The company is now situated in Shropshire and run by Ludwig's grandson, Theo. The company has enjoyed huge success and in 1993 was awarded a brand of the year award. Muller not only make Muller rice but several other types of yogurt such as little stars aimed at children, Muller light and Muller fruit corners to name a few. Muller products are widely available and have benefited from several very successful advertising campaigns, such as the catchy slogan-lick the lid of life.

Muller rice vanilla custard comes in a 200 gram plastic pot with a peel back foil lid. The instructions tell you the rice can be either eaten hot or cold. I like to eat mine cold. However the rice can be heated in the microwave. On peeling back the lid the rice looks thick and creamy. I like to give it a good stir before eating. This flavour is a pale yellow colour and looks a bit insipid to me.

Next for the all important taste test. The rice tasted thick and creamy but the vanilla custard was a huge disappointment. I love vanilla but I really couldn't taste any vanilla flavour in this rice at all! I really enjoyed the fruit flavours as they were not too sweet. However the vanilla custard flavour was a bit too sweet for me without having any real flavour.

Muller sells their rice as a low fat snack implying these are healthy. However with a 200 gram pot giving you 230 calories plus 5 grams of fat and lots of sugar I really don't think these are a healthy option! I won't be buying the vanilla custard flavour rice again but can recommend the fruit flavours!

Summary: muller rice

Great review - I really like the Muller original rice pudding but it is not easy to find!
