Advantages: No added flavour or colours
Disadvantages: They are sickly and have too much sugar
Natural orange and lemon fruit slices are something that my Mum used to always buy at Christmas, why I really don't know because nobody in our house liked them.
I had vivid memories of this seven by seven inched yellow and orange box being placed on the goody table every Christmas Eve along with a bowl of pick and mix and the basket of fruit and nuts.
It had seven orange and seven lemon crescent shaped jelly slices covered in sugar all placed in a circle in a flimsy plastic tray with one round orange one in the middle to complete the attractive display.
When we got the nod we were allowed to help ourselves to whatever we wanted and there she would be waving these sliced fruits under our noses willing us to have one.
I always had one just to keep Mum happy but as a kid I thought they were boring, my Gran loved them so why didn't she save them for her when she came round on Boxing Day?
Last Christmas a friend bought me a box of these fruit jellies so I thought that I would have a nibble just for nostalgia, they were quite tangy and got my taste buds going, and I did notice that they claimed to have no artificial colours or flavours, and that's something that you don't take notice of as a child.
I did prefer the lemon ones because the sugar coating complimented the taste, but the orange ones were rather sickly.
I personally would not buy them probably because I hated them as a child, but if you fancy a try then you can buy them from Tesco during the Christmas Season for 1.45 for a 125 g box.
Summary: Hated them when I was a kid.

- 28/05/08 It was a definite Christmas thing. I used to get them as a stocking filler and they were still around months after! |
