Advantages: tastes ok

Disadvantages: chocolate is too thick compared to filling

I love After Eight's so when I spotted that you could get a block of After Eight chocolate, I decided to give it a try, as I don't get Easter eggs any more, yet I quite fancied some chocolate to eat over the Easter weekend.

The chocolate comes in a fairly large bar, weighing in at 80g. It's wrapped in a luxurious looking dark green paper wrapper, and then underneath, in gold foil.

The actual bar of chocolate is split into just eight large pieces, which I found a little surprising, as I would have expected more, smaller pieces. Each square of chocolate has the After Eight clock moulded into the top, again adding to the luxurious appearance.

The first problem I had with this chocolate was breaking a square off. It didn't break evenly down the lines evenly, so the sticky mint fondant centre would sort of drip out, making this quite messy.

The dark chocolate in this bar is lovely. It's smooth and creamy and has a great taste, and is not too bitter. The main problem for me though, was that the layer of chocolate is too thick. In fact, it's so thick, that you can't really taste much of the mint fondant centre at all. The mint fondant has the same taste as the After Eight boxed chocolates - smooth and sweet, but like I say, unfortunately you can barely taste it for the overpowering taste of the plain chocolate.

Nutritional Info (per ¼ bar):
99 calories
1.2g protein
9.2g carbs
6.4g fat

The chocolate costs just 90p from Tesco, which is not too bad for a large bar of chocolate.

Overall I must admit, I was quite disappointed with this product. Although there is a general After Eight sort of taste to it, the mint fondant centre, which is the part I enjoy most about the After Eight chocolates was barely noticeable underneath the dark chocolate which was too thick for my liking. It wasn't all bad, but I don't think I'd buy it again, I'll stick to the boxes of chocolates in the future.

Summary: Didn't live up to expectations

Sounds a bit like Fry's chocolate bars you used to get - wish they still did them...
