Advantages: Absolutely None

Disadvantages: Not pleasant to eat, reminded me of cigars

For a great many years now, After Eight Mints have been a firm favourite of mine. Recently a friend of mine gave me a gift of After Eight Straws.

Apparantly these have been on the market and available for a few years now, but I have to admit that this was the first time I had seen them.

The packaging is attractive and I was looking forward to enjoying a few of these while watching TV.

The straws are made by Nestle and they come in a silver coloured tube and have pictures of the straws all the way round the box. There is a green band round the box with the name After Eight written on it.

I found the tube very easy to open. It has a twist to open bottom on it. When I took the top off I immediately got a strong smell of mint coming from the sticks. The smell is exactly the same as the one I get when I open a box of After Eight mints.

There are twenty of these mints in the tube. They have chocolate on the outside and the mint cream on the inside. Each straw is thin and about five inches long.

The straws looked a bit like those thin cigars, I can vaguely remember seeing men smoking, when I was a child.

When I took my first bite from the straw I tasted the well known mint flavour straight away. I struggled to get any taste of chocolate. It was completely overpowered by the mint. I had also expected the mint to be slightly moist. I was disappointed because it wasn't. It tasted just like a solid piece of mint. It was actually quite hard.

I think that the only good thing I can say about these straws is, that they have a great minty flavour. Otherwise they were a great disappointment to me. There was chocolate on them and I wanted a chocolate taste.

Each straw contains 24 calories and 1.4 grams of fat.

All the ingedients, and contact details for Nestle, are printed on the box.

I have looked in the supermarket and these straws sell for around £1.99. By my calculations that means each straw costs 10p. In my opinion this is a waste of money.

Would I buy these. Absolutely not. Apart from the mint flavour, they are completely boring and don't have any other taste.

This is the first time I have eaten anything, containing chocolate, and not liked it. Oh well, there has to be a first time for everything.

Summary: Might have been better if I had tried to smoke them!!!
