... bean in sight. It bills itself as the caramel flavoured bar. Its most definitely an acquired taste and one I acquired way back in the 1970s when the original bar came wrapped in gold foil with a red paper outer. Its current vacuum packed easy tear plastic packaging is vaguely reminiscent of this with yellow end caps on the predominantly red packaging. The contents look like a dark version of a white chocolate bar, the smell is vaguely like caramel but not overly so, definitely not as strong a fragrance as I reme...more

Premium Review Nestle Caramac: Brings back memories of childhood (543 words)

Introduction Following on from my previous review of the chocolate bar Wispa I thought about other chocolate and confectionary bars from my childhood and Caramac came up. These have been around throught the four years that Wispa was away. Wispas were released in 1981 but Caramac was released in way back in 1959 by then Mackintosh who were later Rowntree Mackintosh and are now known worldwide as Nestle. The name came from the words Caramel and Mackintosh "CaraMac" Caramac I remember I used to love having one of these bars in my childhood days and I think the first time I tried one was in one of the vending machines at my local ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review A caramel carnival (235 words)

Upon purchasing a bar of Caramac, I just can't wait to get it home! The wrapper is red and the type in yellow. It has the look of something out of Willy Wonka which is never a bad thing. Caramac is made by Nestle, and has a uniqueness that is different to all other confectionary. When you get the wrapper off, the bar itself has the look and feel of the Nestle MilkyBar, and as such is also in square segments. I rate the taste a lot higher than Milky bar, which I also consider to be a treat. I love caramel, and it is strongly recognisable as the overriding flavour, once you first bite into it. The flavours burst and stay with you long after you've finished. ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Nestle Caramac: Nestle make a good chocolate bar (565 words)

Finding chocolate bars I've not tried is getting tougher and tougher, but I came across one I'd never actually even seen before, the Nestle Caramac bar. Coming in a simple and rather classic looking red and orange wrapper, where the orange is use for the ends and the central writing I was immediately taken by this stranger's looks. Costing 45p I decided to buy it and see if it was a missing gem, or whether the reason I'd never tried it is because no one sells it due to it being terrible. So knowing what Nestle chocolate tastes like (personally I'm not a giant fan, it's edible but far from great) I'm a little suspect as it comes to eating this, almost expecting ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Did you Say Carry My Mac Dear? (529 words)

At the back of our local fruit and vegetable shop they have a few shelves that are crammed with bargain buy chocolate bars, more often than not the products have a short sell by date marked on them. I always have a hunt along the shelves to see if there are any of our favourites there. Low and behold there was a pile of Caramac bars! A whole five bars for £1, now the Other Half has a passion for these sweet candy bars but he has one complaint about them, the bars are far too small. Mackintoshes were the brain behind the super sweet candy bar which is now one of the brand names owned by Nestle. They came up with the name of the bar by putting the ...  Read the complete review

I had my first nestle Caramac for about ten years just the other day and I had forgotten how incredible it was!! I tasted like my childhood, Caramacs and Cadburys Wispas were my all time favourite childhood treat. I have always been much more of a chocolate girl, I like sweet a lot don't get me wrong but I feel you just get so much more satisfaction out of chocolate! Nestle have said that the Caramac bar is gluten free, egg free and nut free and even suitable for vegetarians, so there is no reason for anyone not to have tried it. The ingredients are:- Vegetable fat, sugar, lactose, sweetened condensed skimmed milk, skimmed milk powder, butter, ...  Read the complete review
