Advantages: Nice brown colours, taste chocolately, caresses of caramel, creamy, uber and overall leet
Disadvantages: The evil temptation that is the turkish delight, sickly
While at first glance Nestle's highly anticipated Dairy Box may seem like everything you have been longing for in a Dairy Chocolate Box, it is, in all honesty, not everything it may seem at first glance. Although sold reasonably cheaply, and including a reasonable selection of apparently different chocolates, after the first layer, they begin to taste very similar, and it is hard to discern one chocolate from the next.
I feel that at this point, a little background history of Nestle, the manufactures of the Nestle Dairy Box is in order.
Founded in 1871, by twin brothers, Nestle was the result of many years hard work. Although unsuccessful at first, over a period of many years, Nestle began to gain in popularity, due to several now-household names, such as Smarties, Shreddies and even Cocoa Pops.
The first items produced by said company were maize and wheat products, such as cereals, and Reddy Brek (then known as "Readied Breakfast").
As they were not as well known as other companies with a foothold in the tentaive cereal industry, Nestle had a hard time at first, but due to the release of their key seller, Smarties (tm) in 1893, they business took off rapidly, and they began developing new brands and names.
The Nestle Dairy Box is one of these new afformentioned brands, designed in 2003, and put into production in late 2003, with a complete redesign and new box artwork in late 2004.
After what I consider to be "the essentials" of Nestle, without further ado, on with the review!
The picture of a daisy on the front of the box sets the entire collection off reasonably well, but at closer inspeaction, the poor choice of colour only serves to reinforce negative images. However, the daisy does symbolise fields, and from there, happy images of grazing cows, which in terms makes you think of nutricious milk of which the chocolates are obviously made from, the word "dairy" included in the name of the selection (Nestle Dairy Box) and the word "dairy" also referring to milk, produced by cows, which is made into chocolate.
The box contains many different types of chocolate, and the numbers of each chocolate vary from box to box, but generally within the ranges of 2-5 of each.
Because of this, I bought three boxes to count the numbers of the chocolates to ensure that the averages are not biased by one box containing more Turkish Delight chocolates than another for example.
The first chocolate is the caramel caress (an average of 4/box) which is a chocolate casing filled with caramel. The chocolate is very chocolately, and has a nice colour, which the caramel inside is a sort of orangy yellow colour, and has a very distinct aroma of caramelised sugar.
More individual chocolate reviews will be posted later =)
One important point that should be noted before even considering investing in this Nestle Dairy Box is that eating the entire box in one go will not only cause nausia, but may lead to the irrational posting of reviews on the internet.
Summary: Looks nice, but isn't all it seems.

- 14/12/05 HAAAAAAA! It's also a Nestlé product - the UK's least ethical company - killing babies for over a quarter of a century. |
