Advantages: A select few AMAZING ones, the whole box is edible
Disadvantages: THEY LOOK UGLY.
I received this as a gift and whilst most times I put boxes of chocolate on the "to pass on and give away" shelf, I decided to give this a try! Why? Because it was Nestle (creators of Maltesers and Rolo). I've tried Cadbury's and they are disgusting, and never tried Nestle Dairy Box, so I tried it to compare, and it isn't bad.
~~~BOX DESIGN~~~
The box has a simplistic design, the top is very crisp and clean, minimalistic with the name of the box written in large font. On the back is the description of each chocolate... I HATE it when boxes of chocolate do that. How are customers meant to choose which one they want to eat when it's on the bottom!?? This leaves consumers lifting it high and peering underneath, a phenomenon that happens way too often, and unnecessarily.
As you open the box there is a piece of paper cushiony thing, so surely they could've printing it AGAIN on there for ease of use?? *sigh* I guess they have to make our lives more difficult.
~~~VARIETY, APPEARANCE, TASTE AND TEXTURE~~~
The names are not genius, and rather obvious, but never the less, atleast they tried with some sort of alliteration and word play, but really UNIMAGINATIVE.
+Whole Almond Delight
I like the swirl pattern on this, well I think I like the swirl pattern overall on chocolates, but this is not a bad shape, although the whole almond does NOT taste of premium quality, like they just shoved some cheap Tesco own brand almond in there! NOT good... the chocolate is not bad, just the nut ruins it.
+Caramel Crema
The shape is hideous, whats on top is hideous, no idea what it even meant to look like! It tastes ok, but not sure about the caramel... It is acceptable, just not the best one in the box.
+Almond Crunch
I love this one, (the taste I mean) because it doesn't look very appealing, just a boring square chocolate, but do not be deceived this is delicious! One of the best in the box.
+Orange Sensation
No originality here in the appearance either. I guess they ran out of designs and just had to put NESTLE on it!! 0/10 for originality, and not very high for taste either.
+Chocolate Almond Mousse
This is the most abundant one in the box, so you would assume it to be slightly "bad" tasting, and it actually ISN'T! It could be one of the best. It is a nice smooth mousse chocolate with a hint of almond. I like this.
+Raspberry Parfait
Another boring looking one you wouldn't pick up based on looks. It is an acceptable fruity one, but again, NOT the best, only just passes the mark.
+Chocolate Dream
Another boring design. Seriously, hire someone who makes chocolate LOOK appealing! I didn't get to eat this one, although I'm told its not bad!
+Perfect Praline
I also love heart shaped chocolates so this one was my FIRST pick, and it set quite a high standard, as it is a nice praline one. It isn't the best praline I've had, but makes this another very good one, comparatively.
+Double Hazelnut Delight
This is perhaps the most elegantly designed chocolate, and the most tasty one. The description reads "Hazelnut praline studded with chopped roasted hazelnuts and dipped into creamy milk chocolate". Praline, Tick. Hazelnut, Tick. This has all the elements that I love in a chocolate, and it works amazingly well. Shame there isn't more of this in the box, because it's the BEST ONE.
+Rich Chocolate Truffle
Boring, Boring, Boring. How many times have I said boring in this review?? The chocolate isn't bad, but it's just ugly and unappealing to look at. Seriously I would NOT pick this up, but again, looks are deceiving and it doesn't taste as bad as it looks.
~~~PRICE~~~
As I received this as a gift, I wouldn't know exactly how much this costs, but I'm guessing around £5, that's usually how much boxes of chocolate are worth.
~~~OVERALL~~~
I love chocolate, and glad I gave this a go. Most of the chocolates are edible, unlike other chocolate compilations, where there are always one or two you just DON'T like. With this, I could happily eat them all, some slightly more than others, but the box would be depleted very soon after opening.
Sure, this is a strong dairy box, but it does NOT compare to what is available on the market. For not much more, you can get the Lindor Chocalatier's Box, which contains an ARRAY of beautifully crafted, elegantly tasting chocolates. These are my absolute favourites and nothing has yet topped this as a box of chocs!
The reason for Nestle's downfall with this is the lack of care in design. If they made all the chocolates LOOK appealing, perhaps we would think they TASTE appealing as well. By all means they don't taste BAD, just not as good as can be.
There are a few in there that I DO really like: Double Hazelnut Delight, Perfect Praline and Chocolate Almond Mousse; and if any of your friends shares a box, go for those FIRST.
I see loads of BAD reviews here on Dooyoo, and I don't think it's THAT BAD, but I would personally recommend that you go for LINDT instead, as they have BOTH the LOOK, AND the TASTE.
Summary: Go for Lindt instead.
