Advantages: (Caramel) Great if you want to just try something different
Disadvantages: (Caramel) Just not as yummy as the original
This review is mostly regarding the Carmel chunky Kit Kat.
Whilst having a brief shop in Tesco's the other day, I couldn't help but notice a big Kit Kat banner promoting its new chunky Kit Kat range. It has to be said, I don't usually buy a great deal of chocolate and certainly not just because it is new. However, since joining Dooyoo I have gone completely review crazy, I find myself reviewing in my bed, the bath and even caught myself reviewing my own mother the other day ( she had a five star rating obviously lol)! Needless to say when I caught a glimpse of the new Kit Kat I figured it could do with some reviewing of its own.
A BIT ABOUT KITKAT
Kit Kat was originally a Rowntrees product but was taken over by Nestles in the 1990's; very wisely Nestle stuck to Kit Kats original formula and kept the taste the same. Kit Kat is currently the uk's number one selling biscuit, Nestle claim to have sold over one billion biscuits in the uk alone last year ( you could build a reasonably sized bungalow with that many biscuits.) In the 1997 Guinness book of records Kit Kat held a place after sales of 13.2 billion Kit Kat fingers were reached world wide-that's 418 Kit Kat fingers delivered every second.
PRODUCT, PACKAGING AND NUTRITIONAL INFORMATION.
The chunky caramel Kit Kat comes as a 50g bar wrapped in gold foil like packaging, displaying the familiar bright red Kit Kat logo and priced at approximately 45p. The packaging appears to display some very basic information but try as I might I couldn't find the calorie content anywhere. The packaging does however direct you to their site to view this information but only seems to bare the information for the original chunky Kit Kat at the moment, which I did find really annoying if for no other reason but for the purposes of this review. The original Chunky Kit kat is a staggering 236 calories so one can only assume that the calorie content must be of a similar value. One great thing I noticed about the packaging is that it appears to offer a free download of music via the Kit Kat website which I must say seems a rather nice touch. Once on the website Kit kat also appears to have a number of competitions and tempting offers.

TASTE TEST
After settling down to taste this product I recall Kit Kat's promise of a thickly chocolate coated bar with a caramel wafer centre. I have to say the first thing I noticed with this product is the lack of chocolate taste. Even though there does appear to be the thick chocolaty coating as promised, the caramel taste just seems to totally dominate the flavours. I was a little disappointed with this as I was really looking forward to a good old fashioned Kit Kat chocolate fix. All in all the chunky caramel Kit Kat doesn't seem too dissimilar from the original in appearance but I did feel that the caramel taste was just too over whelming. "It wasn't broke so why fix it?"
CONCLUSION
Overall I felt this product was mediocre in terms of taste, I certainly didn't feel I had stumbled across something special and after eating half a bar it did became a tad on the sickly side. I didn't dislike the flavour but I didn't like it either. The original Chunky Kit Kat is by far the tastier of the two with its gorgeously thick chocolate coating would never be rejected again in favour of the caramel flavour. Having said that, im sure if you like caramac then you will love this product.

- 07/11/09 I love Caramac, but this Kit Kat isn't the greatest I've ever tasted. Still, a good solid review, though you're being rather harsh to say "a staggering 236 calories" given that (for example) a similarly-sized Dairy Milk bar has over 250! |
