Why have they added caramel? (Nestle Kit Kat Chunky)
Member Name: Vixstar
Advantages: Good Kit Kat Chunky base; Caramel doesn't taste awful Disadvantages: Pointless caramel cream
I think that the Kit Kat Chunky was an excellent additon to Nestle's collection of chocolate products. I find the balance of the fairly thick chocolate coating and wafer finger just right and perfectly satifying when I want a chocolate fix. I also have a soft spot for caramel so when I saw that Nestle had added caramel to the Kit Kat Chunky I though it would be the perfect chocolate bar. When I purchased this 45p (ish) treat in its golden wrapper I was expecting a Chunky with the addition of a thin layer of chewy caramel on top of the wafer - a little like the caramel in a Twix. I was a bit surprised when I bit into the bar and didn't meet any caramel resistance or much caramel sweetness. It turned out that the caramel was a fairly mild, buttery tasting caramel cream, on top of the wafer (at least I was right about that!) and about the same thickness as the chocolate coating. Probably should have had a better look at the wrapper as it does state on the back that this is a "crisp wafer finger with a caramel creamy topping (20%) covered in milk chocolate (60%)" but they don't go out of their way to draw your attention to this. In my opinion this caramel cream really does not add anything to the Chunky, it doesn't taste awful (doesn't really taste of much) it just seems somewhat pointless. Summary: OMG this Caramel Kit Kat's not funky! |
