Advantages: A filling chunky bar of chocolate

Disadvantages: More'ish!

- Kitkat Chunky Peanut Butter.-

When I think of KitKat I always think of the 4 separate fingers of chocolate, in the distinctive red wrapper. I can't get used to this big chunky bar being KitKat. Anyway it is indeed KitKat and a very solid bar of chocolate it is. I first sampled it last year and on first tasting I immediately thought that it was absolutely delicious. I think it was the large writing of the CHUNKY that stood out to me initially and I wanted to look closer and see what this bar actually was. In it's bright yellow wrapper and red KitKat logo it stood out on the shelf and demanded attention. On further inspection I saw that it was KitKat, and that it was peanut butter filled. It sounded interesting enough for me to want to purchase this bar to try. It was Launched in 2006 in the UK, after the KitKat chunky became a big success in the foreign market. Today KitKat is the UK's biggest selling confectionery brand ~

The success of the original KitKat is undeniable with huge sales in the UK. Roughly selling over 2 million every day! It was first marketed as a lunch-box snack, with the four fingers being perfect to snap off to eat one at a time, when feeling peckish. This larger chunky KitKat bar resembles a giant finger, and they are produced with several delicious fillings.~

KitKat Chunky comes in several varieties. Those being Seville Orange, KitKat chunky original, Cappuchino, and various other limited editions from time to time. The KitKat chunky peanut butter variety is presented in a bright yellow packaging. My packet has some kind of competition on and it states "Win £20" with further details to the back of the wrapper. It has the KitKat logo in a large oval to the front taking up almost half of the wrapper. As I was saying earlier this doesn't stand out as being a KitKat product so they are reinforcing the fact that they have branched out into the chunky variety of this chocolate bar.~

The packaging on the KitKat chunky is foil fresh, and this has now also replaced the original red and white paper and inner foil wrapping of the original KitKat bar also. The calorie content is 269, and the weight is 50g. It has the nutritional information, address, and a freephone contact number to the reverse of the wrapping.~

On opening the wrapper of the KitKat I can now see the size of the bar and it is very substantial indeed. It is a thick chunky bar of chocolate with the KitKat name impressed upon the top of the bar. In appearance it looks like a finger from the original KitKat only in a much larger size. The depth of the bar is ¾ of a inch deep which is a pretty healthy size of bar. On picking it up it is quite heavy and I am now looking forward to biting this to get through to the inner creamy peanut butter centre. The aroma from the bar is very strong, and smells of a rich creamy chocolate.~

As I bite into the bar, my teeth cut through the thick outer chocolate. From the top of the bar the chocolate leads into the soft peanut butter, and from the botttom half of the bar the wafer crunches into my mouth. The melding and layering of these textures and ingredients are delicious, and they cling to my palate and fill my mouth with a velvet chocolate creaminess. The outer chocolate on this bar is a very good thickness and of a really lovely flavour , and after eating this I feel as if I have quite a substantial snack, and at only 269 calories it isn't exactly going to stack the pounds on.~

In comparing this peanut KitKat to any other chocolate I would say it is very similar in taste to Reece's peanut butter cups. They are a little round chocolate encased within a tiny cake stlye case , looking a little like a small cupcake. Reece's peanut butter cups are an American confectionery and are quite similar in the fact that the chocolate is thick on the top and to the centre you have the soft creamy peanut butter. I used to eat these in America when I lived there some years ago, and they became a firm favourite of mine.~

KitKat is made by Nestle. Now I know that Nestle products are not everyones first choice when it comes to chocolate, because of the bad press they have received in the past. But the company seem to have more than made up for past mistakes recently, and they are promoting many good causes here in the UK and abroad.~

In conclusion I would say that this chunky KitKat is a good choice when I am feeling a bit peckish. It cost me 41p from the Co-op, and at the moment Woolworth are doing a special deal with 3 bars for £1.00, which I think is a good price for such a solid bar of chocolate. These are actually quite nice if you put them in the fridge to chill. The chocolate becomes harder which is quite a nice change from the softness of bite when not chilled, and especially nice in the Summer. I have become quite addicted to these peanut butter chunky bars. They really are lovely, and I recommend them 100%. ~

Surprisingly-*May contain traces of nuts and egg!!*
