Advantages: Nice taste, good flavouring, not sickly
Disadvantages: High amount of fat
I'm not a big fan of peanut butter in itself, and I'd never buy a jar, but for some reason I picked one of these up a few months ago.
Whilst I do like the occasional Kit Kat, I don't really go for Kit Kat Chunkies, mainly because for the me the best part of a Kit Kat (apart from the satisfying snapping of the fingers) is the chocolate, and I find there is too much biscuit-y/wafer-y centre in the Chunkies to be enjoyable.
Having said that, I thought that the peanut butter would work well with Nestle chocolate and give it a nice kick, so I tried one to experiment. And I haven't really looked back since! They are not easy to get hold of where I live, so they are a very, very occasional treat, but I am yet to be disappointed.
They are easily spotted in the usual foil-wrapped bar sporting the Kit Kat logo as regular Kit Kat Chunkies are, but the wrapper is a mustard colour instead of the usual red.
One you bite into it, there is a slightly runny yet sticky looking bit at the top of the middle (if that makes sense), which is the peanut butter. It's very smooth, and looks a bit like caramel. There isn't a whole lot in the bar, but enough to give good flavouring. As I'm not a big fan of peanut butter and the amount there is fairly rich, I think it's fine as it is. It also makes the texture and taste interesting, and stops the bar from being as dry as it usually is with the normal Chunkies.
I like this far more than the original, and it's quite a different taste to most chocolate. They could have gone down the standard caramel route but in my opinion this was a bit of a risk which definitely worked. Unfortunately the peanut butter hikes up the calories and fat in an already unhealthy bar, but that's to be expected really.
Summary: Minus a star for its unhealthiness!

- 19/06/09 Not heard of these. I'm not a peanut butter fan either so have no idea whether I'd like these or not, but I may keep an eye out for them from now on just to see. |
