Advantages: Lovely taste, slightly sweeter than normal Polos, low calorie and fat

Disadvantages: ---------

I bought a pack of Spearmint Polos from the service station just outside the Midlands on Saturday as I had been on a long drive from Suffolk to Kidderminster and despite having lots of drinks my mouth felt dry and uncomfortable. I had gone in to buy normal Polos but these caught my eye as something a little different from plain minty sweets, so I got these instead and also some crisps for my hungry granddaughters who kept complaining that they never wanted to come on such a long journey again.

They come in the same tube style packaging as ordinary mint Polos with the only difference being the paper casing on these is more of an aqua colour, replacing the well known green of the more well known Polo Mint.

Opening the wrapper I see that these Spearmint Polos are very similar in appearance to normal Polos, they are a circular white sweet with a hole in the middle and the word POLO embossed on the sweet so it looks like a sort of miniature swimming ring. The thing what sets these apart however is the fact that they have small mint green flecks embedded in the whiteness of the mint.

I popped one in my mouth and was instantly hit with a wave of freshness. I think these are much more refreshing than the normal Polos I eat and the Spearmint flavour is more interesting to suck on. The Spearmint is refreshing and slightly sweet, without being hot in the slightest. It tastes slightly like cool mint toothpaste, but in a good way not like some cheaper mints taste horribly like toothpaste.

My mouth was left feeling cool and suitably wetted after I had eaten three or four of these Polos, my breath felt much fresher than it had and the nasty taste I had in my mouth because of the travelling and lack of real food had more or less disappeared by the time we got to Kidderminster.

I have just looked on the Nestle website to find out the nutritional information (25 calories and 0.1g of fat per 4 sweets) and was surprised to discover that these were launched back in 1994. I say surprised because I have never seen them before and thought they were a brand new product!

This tube cost me 49p from the service station, my daughter says she has seen them in other places that sell Polos but I haven't so if you fancy trying them you will have to keep your eyes peeled. Don't forget that too many mint sweets can have a laxative effect so eat them in moderation even though they are so lovely.

Summary: These have replaced normal Polos as my favourites.

I love these but I find they leave too much of a sugary coating on my teeth than the usual peppermint version. And because of their chalkyness are more liable to break too.
