Advantages: Cheap at Poundland
Disadvantages: Not really
Yorkie isn't something I eat that often but I saw someone else eating one the other day and had a hankering ever since for one so was intrigued to see these unusual honeycomb variety on a bargain offer of four for a £1 at Poundland who seem to specialise in offering multi-buy deals on unusual chocolate bars.
Yorkie always stands out to me because of its unusual promotional tag 'it's not for girls' which McCoys has now picked up on with their line 'Man crisps'. I am not sure quite why they go for these advertising slogans. Are they trying to isolate 50% of the population?
Anyway, whilst the traditional Yorkie packaging is bright blue, this honeycomb variety is unsurprisingly, or should that be unimaginatively, golden. The words Yorkie is written in orangey yellow letters on the top with a no girls style roadsign forming the letter o. There used to be six pieces in a Yorkie but it has now been changed to five and instead of having one letter inscribed on the top of each chunk, the word Yorkie is written on top of each chunk. Whilst I understand that the Yorkie bar is chunkier than say Galaxy or Dairy Milk, I still feel a bit taken aback when I go to get the sixth and final piece only to find that there isn't one. They aren't the only company (Nestlé) to do this. Many chocolate companies are reducing their bars in size and not making any alterations to the price.
The chocolate is, as you would expect with a Yorkie, chunky. It's probably about three times the size of the chunks in Galaxy or Dairy Milk. Each chunk has generous pieces of honeycomb inside. I always like the chocolate in Yorkie bars, it's definitely different to Dairy Milk's, but not in a way that's worse, just different. Perhaps, slightly less creamy. The bar isn't low in calories though, 336 currently, markedly more than most chocolate bars by as much as 100 calories. Perhaps in this way it is more suitable for men as they have a higher daily calorie allowance. Though the pieces of honeycomb aren't packed in, the taste of honeycomb is quite strong and in that way not that dissimilar to Crunchie.
These cost about 50p normally so it's a good deal to get them at Poundland if this is your thing. However, I think I prefer the original milk chocolate version.
Summary: I prefer the original but each to their own
