Advantages: Taste nice, cheap to buy
Disadvantages: High in sugar, fat and calories
I popped into our local newsagents last week and whilst in there I noticed that they had Yorkie Honeycomb bars on offer at 40p each or three for £1.
I decided to buy just one to try it as I had read some good reviews about them and thought that they sounded right up my street.
They are the same size and shape as a standard Yorkie but the wrapper is gold rather than the usual blue. The bar is made by Nestle and weighs in at 62g.
The O in the word Yorkie has a silhouette of a woman in it and is circled in red with a red line through it making it look like a no girls road sign and along the edge of the wrapper are the words 'Not for girls!' Both of these appear again on the back of the wrapper together with the nutritional information.
Personally I don't really see the point of that particular line of advertising but each to his own.
Anyway I unwrapped the Yorkie and the bar looked exactly like the ordinary Yorkie bar - it was chunky and split into 5 separate sections with the word Yorkie written in chocolate on the top of each section.
The bar is much thicker and chunkier than other bars such as the individual bars of Cadburys Dairy Milk.
I broke off the first chunk and popped it into my mouth. To make it last I allowed it to slowly dissolve for a while before chewing it as the crunchy bits of honeycomb became evident. The chocolate was smooth and tasty but, I'm sorry, no other chocolate is as good as Cadbury's for me so it wasn't quite up to standard. The honeycomb pieces were nice, crunchy and there were plenty of them and they tasted good especially when combined with the chocolate.
I had expected this to be a chunkier version of a Crunchie which I love but really this was never going to happen as the chocolate is Nestle not Cadbury's. Having said that I did enjoy it and I wouldn't refuse one in the future although for choice I would go for a Crunchie as, not only do I prefer the taste of the chocolate in Crunchie the number of calories per bar is considerably less. There are 185 calories in a standard Crunchie bar whereas the Yorkie Honeycomb contains a staggering 332!
The other nutritional information for the Yorkie Honeycomb is as follows:
Protein 3.7g
Carbohydrate 41.5g and I am guessing that most of this is sugar!
Fat 16.8g
In conclusion I would say that I will stick to Crunchie in future although I did enjoy my foray into the world of Yorkie Honeycomb!
So maybe they aren't for girls after all? LOL!
Summary: The chocolate isn't as nice as Cadbury's
