Advantages: taste
Disadvantages: none
You can call me stupid if you like, but I never really knew what a bagel was until I ate one a few weeks ago. Since then, I've been addicted!
Coming in at just 2% fat and 10% sugar, they are a surprisingly healthy product considering how sweet and enjoyable they are to eat. They are ideal toasted, and challenge the standard bread toasted (at 5% fat and 7% sugar) as a healthy alternative.
A bagel is (consults wikipedia): a bread product that is part boiled before baking. These ones are flavoured with cinnamon and raisins. Basically, they look like doughnut shaped fruit buns, but taste even better.
The texture is interesting - a glaxed outer hides the soft, doughy and chewy bread that is interspersed with a healthy portion of raisins which explode in your mouth with refreshing moisture.
You can eat them as they are, but they'll be a bit dry, so I recommend toasting them. When you cut them in half, they are surprisingly sturdy and cut really well. When you're toasting them, the smell of cinnamon wafts everywhere and is just gorgeous.
Taste wise, they are sweet and almost cake-like. The cinnamon really only works the smell sense, and you can't really taste it, but that's good because you wouldn't want it to be overpowering anyway.
At around £1 a bag in Tescos, they're well priced. I would recommend them to people bored of bread (they're half the fat of bread) and in search of something a little fancier to replace toast in the morning.
All in all, these are one of the best finds I have had in recent months, and are sooo nice. Best eaten piping hot, don't let them sit around for even a second after getting them out of the toaster.
Summary: do it
