Advantages: Great taste, lots of varieties available, fantastic price.
Disadvantages: None.
New York Bakery Bagels are my favourite brand by far and a packet of 5 is available from £1.13 from Tesco or www.tesco.co.uk and these are packaged in a plastic bag with a neck seal tab and this means that you can undo the bag, take out just one or two bagels & then reseal them for freshness.
These dough is produced, simmered in boiling water & then the bagels are stonebaked and they take on the most fantastic flavour & appearance. The outside of this particular bagel is glazed and a lovely light brown colour. These bagels can be toasted or eaten as they come, I generally toast these and I love a wide variety of toppings on them.
Cut them down the middle & add any topping of your choice (either after toasted or if you are eating as a sandwich) the bagels taste fantastic with spreadable cheese & Marmite or smoked salmon & cream cheese. The list of options you could do is endless really and occasionally when being really naughty I make a breakfast bagel with sausage, bacon & scrambled egg. The bagels toast extremely well but just ensure that the toaster isn't up too high as it's easy to get slightly burnt edges which can ruin the taste.
Each bagel has 216 calories & 1.6g of fat so in general white bread terms this really is not that bad. I find the bagels to be extremely filling and having one at breakfast time will usually keep me satisfied until lunchtime at least.
I have been eating bagels for a couple of years now and I am always surprised when people haven't tried them. They are very big in America and I think sometimes people don't want to try new things for fear of not enjoying them or wasting their money. I think that this are available at a fantastic price and could easily provide you with 5 breakfasts or lunches so £1.13 which is a bargain really. These are on offer quite regular at Tesco stores so keep your eye out and stock up.
The bagels are lovely and tasty, they are best served toasted (in my opinion) and I freeze mine to keep them as fresh as possible. I am rating the bagels 5/5 because they taste amazing, are lovely & filling and the price is fantastic.
Summary: A delicious bread based product that tastes amazing.

- 14/05/09 Love them - with ham and philadelphia! We did try making our own bagels, they looked very odd, but tasted good! |
