Premium Review Weetabix Alpen No Added Sugar: I'd climb Mont Blanc to get to this muesli! (492 words)

I have always liked cereals since my childhood rather than toast etc, and have tried practically all of them. For about five or six years I seem to have had an obssession with milk, and cannot get enough of it, and am known to eat cereal in the middle of the night!!! I wanted to lose weight last year after the birth of my third child, and had tried many ways, but the best way I found was to cut down the portion size but eat more often during the day (about 5 times). I had tried Kelloggs Special K but had to fill the bowl right up to be able to keep up with the children! I found that Alpen did a cereal with no added sugar, and the back of the ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Usually museli, unusually unsugary. (517 words)

I do like museli, and am on a bit of a healthy eating kick right now. Being diabetic I am always on the look out for low or no sugar varieties of foodstuffs. Most museli, believe it or not, is full of sugar and/or saturated fat. Alpen no added sugar is just that, no added sugar, which is NOT the same as no sugar. The sugar that is in this product is natural sugars from the raisins mainly, and totals just 6.3 gms per 40 gm serving, which is about 7% of the total sugars one should have in a day, well, less for me, but infinitely better for me than most other cereals or a big fat fry up (Saturdays only, followed by serious exercise). I prefer to buy ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Weetabix Alpen No Added Sugar: Helpin' yourself to sugar free breakfast? (626 words)

The breakfast cereal Alpen is owned by the British based Weetabix corporation. The company employes 2,500 people worldwide, exporting to over 80 countries around the world. According to the company website, the flaship cereal brand Weetabix is the most popular breakfast in the UK, with a market share of '8% of the total cereal category' and 3 billion of the biscuits are produced a year at its UK site in Kettering. (see http://www.weetabix.co.uk - is that what the internet was developed for, to find out facts like that?) Back to muesli. Alpen was launched on the british public back in 1971, as a health food, aiming to attract younger, trendy ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review An anytime snack! (751 words)
by - written on 18/12/03 (Very useful, 442 readings)
Rating:

I love Alpen and could happily eat it anywhere, anytime, but I had always eaten Alpen Original, which has added sugar. Since being diagnosed as a diabetic I have been trying very hard to control my blood sugar levels using as low a dose of tablets as possible, so I have been trying to weed out products containing sugar. As I said I love Alpen Original and was dubious as to how I would feel about a sugar free version, but I decided to give it a go. The Alpen boxes all have much the same design apart from the fact that the different types are in different coloured boxes so when you're looking for Alpen No Added Sugar in the supermarket this ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Weetabix Alpen No Added Sugar: Muesli for breakfast....anybody (547 words)
by - written on 10/01/06 (Very useful, 1712 readings)

It must be well over ten years since I last bought a box of alpine cereal and I’m really happy I bought it because after just enjoying a small bowl of this delicious muesli, I’m glad I have it in my cupboards to enjoy tomorrow too. I spotted the boxes of Alpen when I went into my local Co-op, they were on offer buy one get one free at £1.79 so after the overindulgence of Christmas, I thought I might have a go at a healthy eating plan and bought two boxes for the price of one. These are 560g boxes which should give me about 14 servings, considering the small price I paid this the two boxes will last me 28 days or 1 month breakfast supply as well as ...  Read the complete review
