Advantages: tasty
Disadvantages: not for anyone with nut allergy
It must be well over ten years since I last bought a box of alpine cereal and I’m really happy I bought it because after just enjoying a small bowl of this delicious muesli, I’m glad I have it in my cupboards to enjoy tomorrow too.
I spotted the boxes of Alpen when I went into my local Co-op, they were on offer buy one get one free at £1.79 so after the overindulgence of Christmas, I thought I might have a go at a healthy eating plan and bought two boxes for the price of one.
These are 560g boxes which should give me about 14 servings, considering the small price I paid this the two boxes will last me 28 days or 1 month breakfast supply as well as helping me to stay healthy.
The boxes are a bright blue design with a nice mountain scene behind an appetising picture of grapes, nuts, raisins and wheat. It’s high in fibre which is good for your body and has 100% natural ingredients. Make sure you store the box in a cool dry place once opened. I usually empty the box into a Tupperware box to help keep it fresh.
If you have a nut allergy then I’m afraid you won’t be able to enjoy Alpen, as it’s packed with almonds and roasted sliced nuts. The calories per serving is quite high at 141 per 40g serving, but if your like me and use up lots of energy in your day then it is good for keeping you going till lunch time.
Alpen is made by Weetabix Ltd and their website is www.weetabix.co.uk if you need any more information on this product. If you don’t like the product or there is something wrong with it, then you can write to Weetabix who will then refund your money and postage with a voucher.
So that’s all the information now to let you know what I think.
Well, like I said earlier it’s been years since I have bought and eaten Alpen muesli, I usually just grab a slice of toast in the morning and hope it will see me through till lunch time, but after getting into eating Alpen I must admit it does keep me going without having to snack before lunch.
It might look a bit strange when you pour it into the bowl, rabbit food my husband calls it, but once you’ve added a little milk it soaks it up, I don’t add sugar as I find it’s sweet enough and is ready to eat as soon as you‘ve added milk.
Surprisingly it tastes just the same as I always remembered it, a crispy blend of wheat flakes and rolled oats, with crunchy nuts and raisins.
It fills you up quickly too, so be careful not to over load your breakfast bowl otherwise you’ll have to throw the excess away. I’d recommend this to you if you haven’t ever eaten muesli before, or like me haven’t bought it for a while. It’s a healthy option as there is no added sugar and is very tasty.

- 10/01/06 Alpen sort of has a weetabix taste to it. That's probably why I prefer it to other Museli's |
