Advantages: Yum, yum, yummy

Disadvantages: Bobbly bits can get stuck in your teeth!

The sun is shining, summer is here at last, it must be time to fill the freezer with cooling delicious ice lollies!

Shopping in Tescos today, I was delighted to see that they have got Nobbly Bobblys half price at 99p for four, so in my trolley they went. I can remember going to the corner shop as a child and buying them with my pocket money, so these lollies hold a certain amount of nostalgia for me. I think they now retail individually at around 90p. Nobbly Bobblys are situated among the childrens lollies and are predominately aimed at kids as a fun product but my children don't care for them much which is great, all the more for me!

Made by Nestle they come in a striking pink box with a big image of the lolly on the front and Nobbly Bobbly written in bold colourful letters. Cartoon hundreds and thousands are dotted around the box in a fun and playful manner. These boxes are very easy to spot in the freezer department, and I can imagine that the design of the box would be particularly appealing to children.

Each lolly is packaged individually in a cellophane wrapper, again in pink with the same picture as is on the box. Pulling the lolly out of the wrapper can be a bit messy, as the lolly is covered in hundreds and thousands. Some have inevitably fallen off, and are about to drop all over your lap, but this is part of the charm!

This lolly is made of layers, on the outside there is a covering of chocolate (actually it is "chocolate flavour coating") dipped in hundreds and thousands ("coloured sugar balls"). The chocolate is just thick enough to be the perfect consistancy so that you can suck it off, and the balls are not too crunchy, but add a satisfying texture and lovely flavour. Inside there is a soft layer of gorgous strawberry ice cream, which covers the middle core consisting of firmer chocolate ice cream. All of these ingredients taste fantastic individually, but when added together they make for a most pleasurable experience, one which I intend to repeat until the box is empty!

Each 70ml Nobbly Bobbly contains 219 calories and 11.6g of fat, so these should really be an occasional treat, but you have to do something naughty to counter act all of those summer salads!

Although I admit that these are not in the same league as your premium ice cream lollies, these have a great flavour, are half the price, and half the calories which can't be bad!

Summary: Adults can eat kids food too!
