Olive oil

Memories of summer days and tossed green salads

I was using my olive oil to cook with last night and I wondered what I could write about olive oil.
The oil I am using is
Huilled’olive vierge extra 1ere pression a froid
Bottled for carrefour (bought in France last summer) the French means it is extra virgin olive oil from the first pressing it was pressed cold. It is the best type of olive oil.

I have a litre glass bottle with golden green oil in it.

Olives are tiny fruit grown on trees in countries in areas where it is warm

Olive oil is made from pressing ripe olives to extract the oils. The flavour and colour, and fragrance can vary as to where the olives are grown.

The best olive oils are the extra virgin oil cold pressed produced from the first pressing with 1 % acidity it is green gold or a bright green colour

Virgin oil is also from the first pressing but has a higher acidity between 1-3%

Fine olive oil is a blend between the two oils

Oil marketed just as olive oil is a complete mix up a blend of all the oils.
Store your olive oil in a cool dark place can be refrigerated. When refrigerated will go thick and cloudy, soon returns to lose cloudiness and become thinner in the warm of the kitchen.

Olive oil is good for you
It is high in polyunsaturates
Helps reduce cholesterol,
Reduces blood sugar levels
May help reduce blockage in arteries
May reduce blood pressure
May prevent heart attacks
Increases the absorption of vit A, D, E,

So overall a good alternative to lard fats and oils.

Excellent oil for making salad dressings
Here is my recipe for a dressing
½ cup virgin olive oil
¼ cup red wine vinegar.
1tablespoon lemon juice.
½ tsp oregano.
½ tsp thyme,
¼ tsp black pepper
1’4

tsp garlic powder
Shake it all together and serve over salad.

With a tomato salad I like to add chopped basil.
This dressing can be adapted with herbs of your taste
.
Olive oil can be used in many other ways in cooking
Can be used as a beauty oil to soften your skin , good rubbed on pregnant ladies tummies helps prevents stretch marks.

I shall now go and read all other opps on Olive oil
Thank you for reading soon be salad days…Mary

we once managed to spill the contents of an entire bottle of olive oil onto the ktichen lino............forever , till we moved out of this student house, people kept occassionaly slipping on the floor..
and boy did we mop and mop and mop it.
1. do not spill olive oil on the floor.
2. do not have students in your property cos they really are negligent.
3.my mammy , who is now in her 80's used to use olive oil on her hair everyday, in the days before conditioners.
