Advantages: Lovely bright packaging, healthy, organic, LO loves them, no mess
Disadvantages: None
I bought these as a snack for my 8 month old son a couple of weeks back when I was shopping in Waitrose. I cannot remember how much they cost as I bought them as part of my shopping rather than individually and in all honesty I did not think to check the price.
They are made by Organix who have the 'No Junk Promise'. However they also make things like Organix Carrot Sticks which I would not touch with a barge pole as they are certainly not carrots, they are a crisp-type thing and just look like junk to me. Rice cakes are a good, healthy food for little ones so that is why I chose these. They make a great snack food and keep my LO entertained if he gets bored when we are out somewhere and he is tired of playing with his toys.
They are for stage 2 weaning and are organically grown with whole grain goodness and no added sugar or flavouring. They are wholegrain organic rice cakes coated with apple juice and cinammon. They are made from 79% organic wholegrain brown rice and 20% concentrated organic apple juice. 3 rice cakes (6g) contain 23 calories and 0.2g of fat.
They come in a bright green packet similar to a packet of crisps and the colour is great and very eye catching. What I especially love is the breakdown of exactly what is in the product to show it contains nothing but goodness. The labelling is very clear and this gives me confidence in the product. They come in a 50g packet.
They are recommended for babies from 7 months and upwards, although I have been giving rice cakes from about 5.5 months as my son found it very easy to cope with finger foods. It is important to move away from just spoonfeeding purees and start to introduce finger foods as it chewing helps the development of facial muscles and feeding himself helps with coordination.
I use a wide variety of finger foods, but rice cakes are the only shop bought ones I give as the rest are fruit and vegetable sticks and various cooked foods. I usually buy the plain Cow & Gate rice cakes but thought I would get these for a change as they are coated with apple juice which I thought might be nice. My son certainly thinks so! He demolishes one in a couple of minutes and they are great as he can eat them while we eat dinner as a family so he feels included.
These will definately be a staple of my weekly shop for the forseeable future!
Summary: I'm so glad we tried these!
