Advantages: delicious, quick, not too expensive

Disadvantages: not too healthy

I used to love McCain's Micro Chips. There was something i found fascinating when I was younger about how you could pop something frozen solid into a microwave and wah-lah, a few minutes later they were piping hot and ready to eat! As I grew older, I was introduced to Fries to Go. Although I was happy enough with my McCain products, these seemed to remind me of McDonalds, which I then loved, so was keen to give them a try!

The Fries to Go come in a pack of three. The boxes are wrapped in a red plastic, with the Fries To Go logo on the front. When you open it up and pull out one of the boxes, you will the same colours and designs printed on the cardbooard box. It is a good size too, about the height and breadth of your palm. Peering in the top, you will find several rows of 'holes'. In these square holes there are frozen chips. If you pull one out, you will find that, indeed, they are frozen, and are quite a pale pasty brown shade. This does not look too appetising, but thankfully things improve as they cook!

In order to cook these chips, you a microwave! It suggests you cook it on full for two minutes and a quarter at 850 watts. My microwave is 800W so I always put them in for about two minutes. If two packs are in at once, I put them in for an extra half a minute. When they have spun round and cooked thoroughly, bringing them out of the microwave fills the air with a light and 'chippy' scent. Emptying out the hot chips onto a plate, you will see they have turned to a golden brown colour, much more appealing!

I always have tomato sauce with my chips, and usually black pepper and vinegar too. I find they compliment these well! After you have left your chips to cool down for a few minutes, they are ready to try! Biting in you will see they are quite soft on the inside, with a much crispier outside. They are not dripping with grease, but they do have a 'shine' to them. They are light and fluffy inside too, despite being quite petite with only small amounts of potato!

These are certainly great to eat, but are they healthy? Well, they're chips, so I'd hardly expect it! Each 90g box once cooked contains 300 calories and 12g fat. That's not too bad, considering if you went to the chip shop and asked for a portion you would be much closer to 100 calories, and a dreaded fat content!

For a pack of three it will cost you around £1.50, working out at technically just 50p a box. Now go to McDonalds and ask what you can get for 50p! They'd turn you away laughing! These are amazingly quick and very delicious too! I mean how often are you served in McDonalds/BK etc within five minutes? Unless its first thing in the morning, it's very rarely! These are definitely worth a try, especially if you like chips or are short of time!
