Advantages: Delicious, Non-dairy, Healthy ice cream?
Disadvantages: Too delicious?
This is a discovery to shout from the rooftops! Swedish Glace can't be called "ice cream" because it has no cream in it - it's dairy-free. However, without reading the labels, you wouldn't guess. It's creamy and delicious and I want some more! It comes in several flavours, including vanilla, chocolate, pear and raspberry. I don't know which to recommend the most - try them all! What's special about it, other than the taste, is the fact that it's dairy-free and cholesterol-free, so it's suitable for people on special diets (vegan, lactose-intolerant, low-cholesterol etc) who couldn't otherwise eat ise cream. Yet other people can share in the delight without feeling they're being offered second-best or a "health food". It contains no genetically-modified ingredients. The vanilla contains 220 kcal per 100g, according to the bottom of the tub; I think this is lower than standard ice creams. However, it is unfortunately so tasty that it's still easy to get fat on it! 100g contains 11g of fat. The main ingredient is organic soya beans, and the vegetable oils are non-hydrogenated. What a healthy treat! Obtainable from wholefood/health shops with freezer cabinets, and many supermarkets (our local Tesco's sells vanilla and chocolate), it comes in black octagonal tubs containing 750 ml. Delight your dinner guests, or simply pig out alone! But enjoy!

- 04/03/02 soya is very high in calcium,so its nutricious.
There is also the idea in a book called raw Energy ,to make ice cream substitute with very ripe bananas mashed and frozen,I think you could mash and chill. |
