Oxo Beef Cube ... make gravy, but equally good crumbled directly in mince dishes such as Shepherd's Pie and Spaghetti bolognaise to add a rich beefy taste. Oxo is England's favorite bouillon cube. It crumbles and dissolves easily to make a rich clear beef stock. Each cube makes approx 1/2 pint.

... use them I either peel off the foil wrapper and crumble the oxo slowly and gently in between my finger and thumb or I squeeze the packet until the cube is crushed within the packet and tear and pour when need be. Oxo cubes can be used in many beef recipes, they make a quick and convenient stock just by adding boiling water from your kettle. Each cube is a deep, dark brown in colour and is easy to crumble. They have a strong beefy taste to them and an even stronger salty taste which is intense. Looking at the...more

Premium Review Oxo Beef Cube: Crumble These Up For Salty Soup (348 words)

The best known stock cube made by Oxo is the beef flavoured one. These were first produced in 1910. Other varieties of stock cube made by Oxo include chicken, vegetable, Chinese and Indian varieties. These stock cubes were made by The Campbell Soup Company until 2006, when the company was sold to Premier Foods. Beef Oxo cubes are made by dehydrating stock and compressing it into a 15 mm cube. The main contents are dehydrated vegetable matter, meat stock, a small amount of solid fat such as hydrogenated oil, and a large proportion of salt (over 50%). Seasoning, including mono sodium glutamate are added to the mix before ...  Read the complete review

OXO is part of the premier Food Empire that includes Cadbury's drinks and Kraft. The acquisition was made in 2006. Previous to this OXO was owned by Van den Bergh Foods Ltd until 2001(part of Unilever) and was subsequently sold to Campbell Soup Company before its sale to Premier food. Concentrated meat extract was invented in 1840 by Justin Liebig and was subsquently commercialised by his meat company in 1866. At this time the extract was more of a liquid containing nothing but meat extract and salt. In 1899 they introduce OXO as a cheaper variant and the rest as they say is History. It is perhaps for the advertising campaign between 1983 and 1999 ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Oxo Beef Cube: Oxo gives a meal Man appeal! (730 words)

I've been watching Rosemary Shragers school for cooks and the contestants have to make their own stock, as I did years ago at catering college. Brown the bones, add prepared vegetables, water, seasonings and cook for hours, strain and you hopefully have some good stock, but it will have taken 4 or 5 hours and who has time to do that these days! The solution comes in a little cube. Now available in different flavours I still prefer the Beef Oxo, and usually buy in larger quantities but it is available in 6s, 12s, and 24s. The little cubes of meaty goodness are foil wrapped to keep them fresh and are fairly easy to open and crumble into meat dishes like stew, ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review That magical little cube (369 words)

I must be one of OXO`s biggest fans ,those crumbly little meat extract cubes are very versatile. The bright red square packet that sits alongside the gravy and sauce granules often gets walked by,classed as insignificant and old fashioned. It may be marked OXO in bold lettering, but gravy granules are a quicker and simpler solution, often the route chosen by many today. The first OXO cube made its debut in 1910 immediately becoming a firm family favourite. Its predecessor the liquid beef extract had been more expensive to buy,so the cube sales literally took off. Between 1983 and 1999 the OXO television adverts were centred around the `OXO` ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Oxo Beef Cube: Very beefy indeed!! (354 words)

As far back as I can remember all my family has used beef oxo's for cooking with and making gravy. Im sure everyone will have come across these in their lifetime but in case some of you have not, Oxo's are beef stock cubes that can be used either for making gravy or stock, you can also crumble a cube directly into your cooking to add extra flavour. I bought 12 stock cubes from Tesco for 71p, I find this is great value as we don't use them very often, therefore a box of 12 will last us a good few months. The box itself is bright red in colour and has the world famous Oxo logo around the box in large white letters. On the back of the box it states that each ...  Read the complete review
