Advantages: strong and very very long (lasting)
Disadvantages: not soft, or useful for wiping yer bum :(
Well here goes... While driving home from work the other night, I caught a whiff of my own, decidedly eggy, breath and thought "woah, I think I need to cure that or I've got no chance of a 'roll together' tonight". So naturally I pulled into the local mint emporium (which just happens to sell petrol as well...strange thing ain't it?) Upon wandering up to the counter I spied a solitary silver tin of O\zon mints and thought "hey, they look like those damn nice mints that Aldi sell"....... now for a bit of gumph... History (very brief sadly): O\zon mints have only been available in the UK for roughly 4 years now, but were sold for quite a while previously in their home nation of Denmark (I thought Aldi were also Danish, but I was proven wrong ;) ). Packaging: The mints come in a nice handy brushed metal case (roughly 2 inches, by and inch and a half, and about half an inch deep) with a nice supple hinge at the back. You flip the lid to find a plastic cover with a hole in one corner where you pour the cute little mints from. Trouble is the things often refuse to fall out of the hole, prompting much shaking and angry facial expressions! Nutrition/ingredients/warnings: Although I don't have exact figures in front of me, I can say this.... Each mint is almost 100% carbohydrate, but is neither sugar, or starch! The main ingredient is sorbitol (as is with many of these 'sugar free' mints), which is classed as a polyol (sugar alcohol!) As said on the tin, excessive consumption of sorbitol can have laxative effects... and I assure you, eating a whole tinful really does the job to good gurgling-and-a-popping effect! nothing to indicate anything against allergies, or consumption by vegetarians. Taste: Popping one of the small aspirin-like mints on to your tongue, you instantly feel a cold sensation on your
tongue. somewhat unsettling if you've never tasted anything containing sorbitol, I can tell you! After the initial cold-ness you get a rush of strong, cool, minty flavour erupting on your tongue. Very very Smint like taste, but differently shaped ;) After sucking/crunching the mint you are left with a pleasant fresh taste in your mouth, not unlike that which is left after a good Listerine session. Personally I always eat them two by two, as I am now accustomed to the cold-burn (if there is such a word). But anyone who can take more than 8 at a time is a hero in my books! Cost: From the garage they are 99p per tin (which contains roughly 50 mints), but I'm sure they are a lot cheaper elsewhere.... and I'm still certain these are the exact same thing Aldi sells under a different name! Contact info: Can't find anything other than a rather odd website for these things (not even sure if it an official one) www.ozon-mint.com I will acquire another tin tomorrow and thoroughly scour the back for details! To sum up: For those of you who feel you are too grown-up/sophisticated for kiddie mints like Polo's these are ideal. Aso those who prefer a good concentrated mint rush, rather than a slow build up. Pop a couple in your mouth after eating something stinky like garlic, or a good greasy kebab, and you're laughing! Sadly they cannot disguise the smell of alcohol, so you can't use the 'I've not been drinking dear, smell my breath' line I'm afraid. Ah well, there are other ways around the better half! Very handy to pop in your pocket, although from a distance they can look like a pcket of those posh 'special balloons' that you can buy at all good chemists! thanks for reading, and may the fresh breath continue! Marc
