Parmesan .Who doesn’t know it, a hard cheese from Italy.

Parmesan cheese, the real stuff Parmigiano reggiana made in Parma Italy, matured for at least 2 years. There are many other cheeses passing of, as Parmesan but Parmigiano reggiana is the real stuff the original.

Parmesan cheese in general.
Can be bought in any supermarket.
Can be purchased ready grated in a little plastic tub, or in a small wedge pre-packed or can be bought from the cheese counter.

The parmesan in tubs is ok if you just want to add a little sprinkle to your pasta but a wedge not pre grated tastes better. It does grate very easily.
Has quite a long shelf life.

Can be quite expensive abot 6- pounds for 300g but you only need a small amount.
Parmesan cheese is made from cow’s milk.
It is a hard crumbly cheese salty and strong flavoured.
Parmesan cheese does not melt very easily.
Smell can be a bit like sweaty socks ,sicky.

Used to sprinkle on top of pasta dishes like spaghetti Bolognese.
Can be added to omelettes. I make a really tasty three-cheese pie with it .
There are many Italian dishes using parmesan you do not need much to add that distinctive flavour.
