I love a good curry - the trouble is, when ordering in, I'm never quite sure how spicy my foods going to be, so I like to keep a little something on hand to give me that little extra kick I often need - Pataks Mango Relish . Note, this isn't mango chutney, but an entirely different thing altogether - large chunks of chewy pulpy mango, marinated in a hot and spicy chilli oil, with a little garlic and cumin thrown in . Its not particularly pretty looking , I have to say - lumps swimming in bright red oil is the best description I can give you . I do have to say I am not a massive fan of mango chutneys. I do eat them but in moderation, as to me they come across as Mango jam with a bit of chilli thrown in. Patak's hot mango relish I'm happy to say is only the same in the mango name alone. It looks and tastes completely different and boy has it got a kick on it. It goes with all Indian food and can be used with the main or the starter. I even love the way it goes with plain pilau rice too. It keeps the mango flavour but has the heat of a chilli or lime pickle with the same sharpness and fiery heat. The bright orange of the mango is even a joy to look at.
