Schools these days are trying very hard to make sure that the packed lunch you give your child is healthy and not stuffed with terrible things for them to eat. Because of this the school my son attends does not allow chocolate in the boxes but they do allow a chocolate biscuit like a Penguin or Breakaway. I have brought these Penguin biscuits for years now and the children enjoy them a lot. They are made by McVities so you expect the biscuit part of these to be delicious as they are a famous biscuit maker. True to form the biscuit is crisp enough to give it that crunch and the chocolate covering is just thick enough to give it that treat. It is ... Read the complete review

McVities Penguin bars have been around for years. As a child my brother and I would argue over which of the nice shiny coloured wrappers we would pick for our biscuit treat. Why? who knows as each biscuit is just the same as the others, but there you go. The wrapping has slightly changed over the years and is now more of a coloured cellophane with a penguin on each one. Hubby brought a multi-pack which contained nine biscuits home. This was part of a special deal at Asda and included Classic and Gold biscuits also. Now I have not bought Penguin bars for quite a while, as I was told that they are one of the worst snacks you could eat. However looking at the ... Read the complete review

I have no self control when it comes to chocolate. None. A packet of penguins lasts very little time in my house and if I had to criticise them in any way, I’d say they were too small. The Penguins on the wrappers used to wear suits or at least bow ties, but these days they are naked - perhaps taking marketing tips from Holly Valance – maybe we can look forward to some shock tactics, gay penguins or something. Over 65 years old, they’ve obviously moved with the times. For anyone who doesn’t know what a penguin tastes like, it’s two layers of very dense but thin chocolate biscuit with a layer of chocolate cream in between and an outer coating of slightly ... As a child McVities Penguins were something that we always had in our house and now I have children myself it is now something I have started buying. They are the perfect chocolate bar for children and are great for packed lunches. I usually only buy penguins when they are on special offer and at Tesco's they seem to have been on offer for ages. You can currently buy a pack of nine for just 50p, that is better than half price. You can also get McVities Penguin Wafer bars for 50p, these are a newish product and I don't think they are as nice. I think normally you can get a nine bar packet for £1.17 and a eighteen bar packet for £2.24. I don't know if ... Read the complete review

The Penguin bar is one of many products on Dooyoo I've reviewed as of late that just gives me a pang of nostalgia - these bars were a frequent staple of my childhood, and I fondly remember opening my lunchbox many a time and finding these delights inside. Somehow, my undiscerning young self found the jokes funny - that, or they have, in fact, actually been getting worse, as many have suggested. Vetern biscuit makers McVities bring us this delightful chocolate bar - it is a crunchy shortbread biscuit covered in a soft layer of chocolate that is almost mouth-watering to bite into. Atop this is another harder layer of chooclate, giving it all the more crisp ... Read the complete review
